Your favourite 5 gigs in order?

bloody hell - Wonderstuff :lol::lol::lol::lol:

I did security for a gig when they played in Newcastle in the 90's - spent most of my time escorting squashed teenagers from over the barrier and back out on to the main floor (if they didnt need some medical attention before chucking them back on the main floor) :lol::lol:

we were just talking about L7at work the other week when we read that Ari Up from The Slits had passed away and started reminiscing about all girl bands back in the day before we got the Spice Girls/Sugarbabes/Girls Aloud/The Saturdays

we noticed a marked difference in how girls behave on stage from then and now ....

http://vimeo.com/7496708[/URL] everything basically that is exciting and emotional and sweaty about live dance music.

this is amazing, was going crazy by the end of it

I loved the first two streets albums, which I thought were genius but I quickly found they don't transmit to a live experience. Skinner is (or was) a brilliant wordsmith so those albums were totally designed for home or car listening. At the brixton academy all you got was a load of bass and faux-macho posturing which is particularly embarassing to watch when it's some suburban Englishman doing it. The crowd was an interesting blend of guardian readers and young gangstas dressed and attituded for a hiphop gig but there the similarities ended... I think The Streets got away with it for a long time because Skinner appealed to people across the classes but ultimately I think he got found out as not having that much to say to anyone which is why the later albums were total elephant turd.

The Flaming Lips gig was in Birmingham - and was quite frankly a mess. Lots of freaks prancing about on stage in animal costumes, the acoustics were terrible. Maybe it would've made more sense on hallucinogens - but I didn't get into it at all

First two Streets album were great, second two had a smattering of decent moments. I've seen them live twice (but not till past the third album) and enjoyed both shows immensely - Skinner knows how to please a crowd (trying to cover as many hits as possible + covers of old rave tunes), or at least he did at these ones!

Sounds like a fairly typical Flaming Lips show. I suppose you enjoy the spectacle or you don't. I saw them when they were touring Embryonic - not their best album, but when they played their life-affirming oldies (Race For The Prize, Do You Realize?, etc) you really couldn't fault them and I think everyone had a smile on their face - drugs or no drugs. :lol:

Anyway, hard to pick 5 fave gigs (mainly coz I enjoy most I go to), but two special live acts for me are Sigur Ros (and this was despite being hardly able to see them thanks to choosing crap part of venue) and Bat For Lashes (who I first caught when she/they used put on all the weird theatrical costumes).
