Much of Annie's 2nd album was written by Xenomania (who also do GA) and they were even due to sing backing vocals on one of the tracks. Sure they've done some rubbish, but if you like Annie I can't see why you wouldn't appreciate at least a couple of GA tunes. I want to hate everything associated with Simon Cowell, but the FACT is they have made some decent pop tunes.
I like some Sugababes too, but don't tell anyone.
There's a lot of good, underexposed pop music - Husky Rescue and Piney Gir are two more acts that spring to mind.
i didn't know annie had released a 2nd album! I liked the first one because it represented all that I love about scandinavian music, cold, ethmereal, quirky, intensely melodic (see also kings of convenience, the knife, peter, bjorn & john)
I feel Girls Aloud on the other hand make (or rather, have made for them) lowest common denominator singles designed to appeal to 10 year olds, which is why I avoid all that stuff. I guess from the beginning they had the media exposure to shift mega-units whereas Annie didn't, which is why she's never really going to make it big (unless an advert or film comes calling?)

Although Heartbeat is my favourite Annie tune by miles, I do prefer her second album overall. It's definitely worth checking out. The first half is packed with killer pop tunes.
