Who is from the states here and where?

Axon... i can sort of understand where you are coming from in some ways.. It is the same way that when i traveled to europe it took sometime to get use to the way things are done there... i really had a hard time with the rudeness of some people but Sh*t... instead of complaining i asked someone why ...why is is that if you bump into someone that excuse me is not said...and i was explained that Americans tend to be overly polite to the point where it is not that geniune... and now i can really see that...

My family is from puerto rico and the difference between Puerto rico and the main land is also very visable. I mean in the latin culture socializing and having fun with your family and friends is part of life... here well i hate to admit it but it can be very superficial and materialistic... but i really feel that it depends where in the U.S. you are... like for instance in NYC it is so mixed and social and interesting in so many ways you do see peoples uniqueness... now from what i have been told i cant say its first hand experience but in west its really superficial ...its about what you have and who you know...and i think that uniqueness is lacking in some parts of the U.S. (sorry dont mean to offend anyone) , another example which i can say it is first hand knowledge since i lived there for over 20 years...Philadelphia.. it sucks the people are freakin rude and ignorant...the clubs suck... and everyone follows what everyone else is doing...now.. not all people are the same you will find those who are unique and friendly but really only a handfull.

it really sucks but i can sorta see what your saying... now with the whole pub culture...yeah ..i would say your an alcoholic if you go there so often but once again thats how its done where you are from and you know what if you really are not an alcoholic but someone who just chooses to socialize at the local pub..like on Cheers...then freak everybody else and do what makes you happy... :D

No never. I'm not trying to generalise to a whole continent by the way. Some of my mates tell me I'd be much better suited to NYC than CA, but I can't judge as I've never been.

I've been to New Orleans twice and loved that however. So sad what's happened to that great place...

I know your point exactly, which is why I asked you the question. I have to rush now to brown nose some customers so that I can spend my time chatting, but when I get bck tonite I will write a more detailed response.

its good to see so many other americans on the damn board... i know my last time in ibiza ..it was a big thing to meet other americans...
it sucks i guess cause house music isnt as big here in the states... those that dont know have no idea what they are missin...

I barely met any Americans on my trip in August; my trip was truly an escape. Most people thought I was a Spaniard! When I walked into Manumission with my tan and my lips cherry red from all the sun, the British guys who were trying to pull were talking to me in Spanish!

A lot of Europeans were surprised that I was American. They told me that the reason they thought I was Spanish (from the mainland) was because of how cavalier and uninhibited I am. They said that most North Americans they meet in Ibiza are very conservative and uptight. There's a fat Canadian at my job who went to Ibiza at the same time I did but he certainly had a conservative time. What a waste of space on the White Isle! He had a huge chip on his shoulder and acted like he was the bees knees for getting a corporate paid trip there, but his pictures were BORING! I told him that to his face when he was showing them to people. When I saw his pictures I swore it wasn't Ibiza - it was all fat, boring, conservative people fully dressed and doing nowt. He said he might show us more pics of him on the beach and we all prayed he wouldn't. He had pics at the "F*** me I'm Famous" party at Pacha and I swore it wasn't my beloved club - he made it look like a senior's tea dance. No pics of the champagne glass, no young clubbers, no pretty lights, it was horrible! He claimed he got into a "VIP" area and drank a lot - I told him it must have been an off night and Pacha really needed the money. I showed him my pics and he blushed. Now who goes to Ibiza, comes back, and blushes at pics of their pretty co-workers with topless girls? Only fat, obnoxious idiots who need to go to Hawaii next time. On my trip I saw nothing but beautiful people, not types like him.

Let only uninhibited party people from this message board thru customs if they're from North America!!

Hey you make some good points - thanks! I think the politeness thing is definitely underrated - even if its insincere it's better than rudeness so fairplay to Americans on that issue.

I think I need to check-out the eastern side of the country. Maybe I'll head to NYC at Christmas...

Why, thank you! That's so sweet. I look way better with a tan. I usually don't like photos of myself but I liked the ones from Ibiza. I don't look like Pachagirl79 but I'm not bad. :D

hahaha...Paris...that made me laugh...the fat dude must have had a hard time over there considering that their really are not that many over weight people in ibiza...
that was funny... high five to that one...hehhehehe

Too right! I was so mad that day because he interrupted my sharing time with his horrible photos. If you're not fit, beautiful, partying your a** off or naked in your Ibiza photos, get outta here - you didn't belong there in the first place! He came over at the exact same time I was gleefully sharing the love of my trip with my co-workers and butted in. Everyone kind of looked at me sympathetically. My co-workers are still asking see my NSFW pictures. And we always have to look around for the killjoys and laugh! LOL

Up near the What does that mean, you can't be bothered with the whole place?

Emmm. That's a difficult one to answer in less than a 1500 word essay. But I'll try.... I just want to start by saying that since coming here almost everyone has just been so friendly and welcoming (probably way more so than most British people would have been to a foreigner back home I'm sad to say) and I have made some good American friends. I just wanted to say this because I know I'll feel guilty about the next bit...

I think I just find the USA much more foreign and strange than I thought I would. Before coming here I had assumed that as our two nations speak the same language, we would be quite similar. Like most Britons I don't consider myself European in the slightest and don't speak other languages much either. But I'm finding I have much more in common with people from other European countries. To be honest I just don't get what most Americans are about. All people seem concerned about is being respectable and making money. Most people seem pretty boring in fact. All the European friends I've made since coming here agree with me on this point. Its a very rules-based society here (especially compared to the UK). Everything from effective prohibition till you're 21 to getting a parking ticket for parking outside your own house on a street-cleaning day! *beep*!

Partly this is a good thing - people are much more courteous and polite than in the UK. But it seems to be extremely difficult to find cool laid-back people who just want to have a laugh. There's not much of a pub culture. If you go to the pub more than once a week, people seem to think you're virtually an alcoholic. In terms of clubbing, at least in the SF bay area, things are pretty sedate. I thought if there was anywhere in the States where the party would totally go off, it would be San Francisco, but sadly no. The atmosphere and party spirit is but a fraction of that in England or Europe.

Of course there are a lot of good things about the place too. Friendly people, good weather, and great scenery.... Sorry that was pretty long (yet pleasingly cathartic).

You've got nothing to feel guilty about, it's how you feel. However, I would highly recommend trying out a place other that SF. I've been there and I too thought it was boring. Definitely definitely definitely, if the opportunity arises, move to NYC. There is great nightlife, you can go to the pub as often as you wish and no one cares  .
But I hear you, a lot of the states are very... eh. Myself, I love Europe, and I would love to live there. I just haven't got the cojones to pack up and move.

I met some guys from the New York Fire Dept in 2004. They were great guys and a real laugh. Freaked them out though when i introduced myself by climbing into their appartment at 8am putting some funky tunes on and dancing round the room slapping their arses! ha ha top blokes!

I have heard of a number of Americans who have called themselves Canadians when they went to Europe to "avoid" a backlash. IMHO that is pathethic. I am surprised though that it is coming from folks who are/were in the service.

that's a very elitist view of the island p400. especially when you take into account that the vast majority of the island's visitors and residents don't fit into that category.

Live and let live. I love to see crusty old guys with beards and families on the beach. Variety is the spice... after all.

Luguna.. yep i thought it was ill to that they were lying about being american.. shoot i know that most people in europe do not think highly of americans but i feel as though it is my duty to show that America is where we are from but a person is a person with their own mind regardless...shoot i went and a few times im like im american and i hate bush... and my man and I had a few conversations with people and we explained that most americans dont agree with the politics of our country...Of course some europeans were standoffish about us but whats funny to see is that 1 some of them ended up realizing that we were cool and the ones that werent were just stuck up people and stuck up people come in all shades and nationalites and ethnicities..So their loss any way...

Disgusting.

Decently frightening as well to know that they carry that kind of cowardice when they possibly could end up representing our country in war 8O

What I was saying was meant to be very tongue-in-cheek. I was staying in Playa D'en Bossa and you're right, a lot of the people definitely didn't fit the category! Lots of older people and families with kids, but they all had a great attitude.

The person I was talking is a real elitist jerk who talked a lot of crap about me at work for being as uninhibited as I was on my trip. He showed that he's he type who would spend thousands to be "VIP" and then is very disdainful towards clubbers and the hoi polloi; and to top it off, he looked like he hadn't seen a gym ever in his life and was quite repulsive to think about being on a beach. The best times I had there were always with the Bora Bora type crowd, who were beautiful inside and out and had great attitudes, and didn't think they were better than others because they had money in their pocket. I met a lot of good natured clubbers and regular people who were the type who don't go to the gym, but they had wonderful personalities and were a joy to meet. I don't mind a crusty on the beach - I'm only visiting so I'm not one to judge who goes where. I just know that there are people who go there to be very elitist, something I thought I left behind in NY.

Ibiza is a gorgeous island, and during my stay I saw some of the most physically beautiful people I've ever seen in my life. To top it off, they were fun, exciting, sweet and hedonistic. I'd rather my pictures reflect that than reflect a smoky, boring room with no vibe and unattractive, bored people who go home to boast that they were in "VIP" when there really was nothing interesting happening there anyway. You can get that in any city; Ibiza was like heaven in beauty and attitude and was truly an escape.
