Whats the worst illness/injury you've had?

We used to spend most of the summer holidays in casualty when I were little.......

So did I, my mum and dad used to see how many different casualty departments they could visit with me

Talking of injuries PL I meant to ask you, how is your ankle, I wore some wedges for the first time in months the other week instead of flats and my ankle swelled up massively again, is that what happens to yours now and again still :?

Wow I feel pretty lucky now!

Worst I've had was a wierd virus I picked up in Japan that kept me bedridden for a month, making me lose 20kgs of weight. That kinda sucked.

Not really broken anything, except suspicion of fractures on both my nose (rugby) and my collarbone (snowboarding)..

they used to joke they were going to name a ward after me....

hmmmmm - its not the healthiest ankle in the world tbh. I have been playing squash a lot recently and I had to buy an ankle support (to match with my fetching elbow support) so its not too bad if its protected. I wore heels at The Cross the other week but I spent the night really watching where I was walking (that floor is a death trap!) but its still weak. Strangely enough Wedges are better than heels for me - at least I feel safer in them.

Do you do ankle exercises? The Physio game me some to do which I think has helped a bit - still time will tell in Ibiza - as long as I dont have the same thing happen as last year - should be fine......

Been lucky as well. Broken fingers and toes playing football and the usual muscle injuries.
Worst illness I had was without doubt Glandular Fever as a 16 year old.
Horrific week in bed, and I mean horrific, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, couldn't breathe. Lost a couple of stone, and all caused by a burd with blonde pubes (that's the only thing I can remember about her - thought it was worth a mention !!!).

Had really bad flu in Ibiza a couple of summers ago, 2 days in bed solid, only getting up to pop to the hotel bar to get a drink. Led to mild bronchitis for a fortnight when I got back.

But other than that, i'm never usually ill.

My mum and dad said they didn't even need to give my details cos they recognised me for being such a regular visitor

So really we've got spazzy ankles for life :? 8O

*Babs frantically doing some ankle exercises at desk as we speak*

I dont dare get on a podium now for fear of it going completely...... our dancing days will be shorter than your average able-ankled clubber I think, hence the need for more beans and gak than your normal club going person - all medicinal you see....

Hmmmmm I like that slogan for a T shirt "Spazzy Ankles for Life"

I broke arm, fingers, ankle when I was under 12.

I broke knee when I was 23 and never again was the same and I have serious problems to ski with no conscuences

I had a car crash 5 years ago, leaving La Terrazza at 7am and driving to Sitges for an after-party, my friend stomped the little Lupo and we didn't die because of a miracle 8O

I had a motorbike crash 4 years ago, I stomped my bike with a car who had no see the trafic light. SPent the worst summer of my life with my neck injured for 6 weeks and going to the hospital every day for three months. THe good thing was the dirty amount of money I got from the insurance :D

Had back problems for years after getting a proper battering by Broadwater Farm Youth FC a week before the riots! Scummers!

Three weeks in hospital for that so must be my worst.

I had a tumour on my spine when I was 16yo and had to have it removed. Spent 4 weeks in hospital on morphine ( 8O 8O ) and had a cast around my whole body for 6 months.

3 weeks ago I had a cold/flu bug which hit my chest pretty hard (I have mild asthma)

Anyhoo about 3am I woke up unable to breathe and woke up Mrs Jam (6 months pregnant) who told me to go in the spare room and use my inhaler.

By 6am it was no better and I shuffled back into our bedroom and virtually collapsed on the bed.

20 mins later and the ambulance has arrived - I had the nebulizer whilst on the bed and again in the ambulance. My blood oxygen was half what it should be and I was xrayed to find my left lung was only filling to 60% capacity.

I had a steroid injection, paracaetamol via IV drip and 3 more doses of nebulizer before being discharged that afternoon....

Worst part of it was that I was going to meet Puppylover in Newcastle that night and had to cancel

Now I feel guilty for assuming you had "man cold" - whoops!!

PS I still have your inhalers that you lent me in Ibiza in September - lifesaver that you were!!

We need to reschedule an away trip - got Gingerfreak coming up in May - you need to come up before Bump arrives..... ;)

I dislocated my left knee when I was 17 - and still suffer for it. I guess I have a spazzy knee! And I had gallstones when I was 20 - never really known pain like that!!!! It was awful!!!! :(

I've played footy with 2 guys who've dislocated knees. They look horrible. And the sound when they are popped back in makes me squirm just thinking about it.

I remember the sound as clear as anything. It was horrific!! My knee doesn't look particularly bad, it's just very weak. I'm still waiting for surgery on it, cos it just pops randomly now - which can be a bit annoying. But I can knock it back in myself now! :D

That reminds me of when my poor little granny dislocated her shoulder last year, the hospital staff had to yank her arm to put the bone back in place :x 8O

Horrible thing to have done, especially when you're 83 :( 8O
