Nah - no worries Russ, have experienced some dodgy parties in many parts of London. My favourite was a lock in party at a pub in Stoke Newington which had bullet holes in the mirrored wall behind the bar and also in the mirror in the ladies toilets.... and was full of, I believe the term is "Yardies" complaining about the house music when they turned up to do "business"..... I was poo-ing my pants at that point....

was just wondering, now i know 
had heard stories about it being somewhere to avoid.
btw, last week in glasgow city centre a guy got stabbed in front of me and then i walked round the corner to see a guy battering his girlfriend which then developed into a mass brawl as others got involved. brixton actually sounds not too bad!
im also looking for info on the south side of london (clapham etc), read in a book that south london was seen as being a $hitty place to live, could anyone tell me what they think?

Clapham's fine, I've got friends who live there, lots of bars/restaurants, the Common is nice in summer, I did have a friend who got mugged there but you can get there anywhere, he was more Clapham North end, Clapham Common/Junction is fine. You're only on the Northern Line from there tho which is the worse tube line imaginable (delays/cancellations/over-crowding) so you might want to bear that in mind but as a place Clapham is nice.

I live between Balham and Streatham and it's really pleasant. Quite green and spacious, with nice pubs and restaurants. If anything it's a bit too clean and middle class. Brixton is more edgy if you like that kind of thing.

lovely friend who I have not seen in ages for a real catch up isnt really into the types of clubs we all like, so she isnt keen.
Now I have asked her to stay over at the flat I am using on Fri night and she is unsure as to whether to stay with me or just go back to hers, so potentially, if she goes home and I am left on my ownsome I may pop down to Turnmills,
if she decides to stay over, then I can hardly leave her at the flat after I asked her to stay and then leave her to go to a club...... what to do, what to do!!!
