Hey everyone, I'll be spending a few days in Barcelona before heading to Ibiza. Can anyone suggest some cool nightlife spots ... bars, clubs, whatever. I would like to experience a little bit of the native culture, so less touristy spots are probably better than more touristy.

Thanks.

Hello...

Here the Barcelona Tourism Office - Spotlight Section ;)
When are you coming to Barcelona?
For nightlife I highly recomend La Terrazzza, legendary out-doors house club. You'll find enough locals to experience the spanish sense of Fiesta.
Let me know when you are there and we'll sort out your best options 8)

Regarding this issue here's a tip for you: there's a very beautiful building which is pretty secluded and many tourists forget to visit: El Palau de la Música. Another modernist gem.

When a friend of us from Barna guided us there we didn't saw any tourist (apart from us naturally), and this friend of mine told it's a pity such a beautiful building is not visited.

The shame is that we couldn't get inside, as the inner part is stunning.

It's a wonderfull place, the inside is stunning and the acoustic is amazing.
It's a modernist gem from a minor arquitec. It's on the center and the area (Santa Caterina) it's very charming and nice.

I'll be in Barcelona from Monday June 21 to Thursday June 24, when I catch the overnight ferry to Ibiza. Isn't the festival of St Joan during that time? La Terrazzza sounds interesting. When is the night to go (The guidebook I have says Saturday)?

Thanks for your comments, so far (I love Spain already). :D

Sant Joan is a very popular festivity, it's summer solstice and the shortest night of the year. When I was a kid the night of the 23rd there were bonfires in every street and lots of fireworks and petards. Now a days bonfires are much more restricted, you can catch few around the city. Expect children with petards and fireworks and people dancing passodobles, bolers and cha-cha-chá (very family style ;) )

You are lucky cos the 24th is bank holiday so la Terrazzza will be open the 23rd, and it's supposed to be a big night. If you want to see a traditional "Revetlla de Sant Joan" I suggest you this: go to Plaça del Escorxador where you'll find a traditional "Revetlla" and around 1 - 1,30 you can go to La Terrazzza. Plaça del Escorxador is near the hill-park where La Terrazza is sitted.

Check this site, is the webpage of the city council. THere's also a streetfinder_ http://www.bcn.es

Anything you need, just ask!

Hey ... I have just moved from London to Barcelona. I am now living in Barcelona ... and this a truly amazing city.
The clubs and bars are spread out all over the place. For example in the Olympic Village you have the C.D.L.C lounge club (Patrik Kluiverts place, right on the beach) - this is a really cool place, with some great funky house music. Used to be the venue for the Hed Kandi parties ! Just a few metres from here is another cool bar-club called SHOKO ... and then round the corner from here is a club called CATWALK. All these are walking distance from each other.
Another area to check out is POBLE ESPANYOL ... here you have a club called La Discotheque .. and not far from here is the La Terraza ... both have a good reputation ... (La Terraza is an outdoor club, only open in summer).
The other area worth checking out is C/Santalo with C/Mariano Cubi ... here you have mainly the local people, and not forgetting the beautiful women ! ... lots of bars, restaurants and fashionable clubs: OTTO ZUTZ, SUTTON.
Bear in mind that the nightlife starts much later here .... bars dont start getting busy until about 1am ... and dont goto any clubs before 3am !
Enjoy Barca !
P.S 24 June is St Joan's day here ... again lots of parties taking place on the 23rd June ... La Terraza is the place to go !

La Terrrazza on the 23rd it is then. If any of you are planning on heading there that night drop me a note and perhaps we could meet up.

Could you guys also recommend a couple of places to go for reasonably priced eats?

Rocco, how did you manage to swing the move to Barcelona?

La Terrazzza opens around 01.00, I use to arrive around 2.30 - 3, it gets busy around 3.30 - 4 and it closes around 6.30 (if you are lucky can be 7.30 8) )

Terrazzza listings for the Sonar Weekend:
Thursday 17th : Soma Records Slam, Silicone Soul, Ewan Pearson, Lars Sandberg (Funk D'Void), Envoy (live) & Vecotr Lovers

Friday 18th: Cocoon Sven Väth & Dorian Paic

saturday 19th: Poker Flat Steve Bug, Guido Schneider & Martin Landsky

Other options are Club Danzatoria, Catwalk, Nitsa and Cityhall.

The Time Out - Barcelona guide has a write up on Barcelona Rouge ... it's located at C/Poeta Cabaynes 21. It says they serve absynthe, which I am looking forward to trying :D .
