What´s this `new´ Tiesto?

I read on the DJ magazine website an interview by Tiesto from 2010 http://www.djmag.com/top100/detail/2587.
He states he has eliminated trance from his sets as he found it just sounded all the same. He now plays house and even indie.
I find this very surprising as he is obviously one of the pioneers of trance. I haven´t seen tiesto in 3 years and was thinking about seeing him at Privelidge this summer but if he is playing house and indie I prob will go to Cocoon.
Would like to know if this is true. How are his sets now? Can anyone recommend some sets to download.
If you didn´t like tiesto before then no need to comment. Just some constructive comments on this transformation.
Thanks

inb4 haters.

If you can, get your hands on Clublife 129 (Creamfields 2009) and Clublife 121 (Privilege 2009). He still has some trance in his set, but not much.

Think of the kind of music that is his latest album (Kaleidescope), as well as the stuff you'd hear played by the likes of Swedish House Mafia. He doesn't player indie, per SE, but he does play house versions of indie (Kidsos by Angello, and In for The Kill (Black Festival Remix) as examples.

Sadly, I never got to see him before he made the switch, so am unable to compare. But if he was anything like Armin, he's just not as good anymore.
The club itself though, is an experience to behold. Which kind of makes up for it.

ive not seen Tiesto for about 5 years now apart from walking past the main stage at creamfields, i really cant imagine him not playing trance.

He did a 15 minute 'Tiesto Classics' set at Creamfields last year, (Adagio for strings and Urban Train), but that was it. The rest was stuff like Feel it my my bones, Supernova, that kind of music.

He only played his remix of silence (that I recall, my memory is vague) at privilege.

Saw him in 2009 at Privilege. Will be my one and only time TBH. Played some trance but really mixed it up which kind of bored me because I'm not a house man at all. If you're after 138-40bpm trance you'll be very disappointed.

Damn it sounds like he has gone utterly awful. The next Paul Oakenfold. He may please a few with this eclectic mish mash mixes but generally clubbers like a particular sound and won´t appreciate him going from indie remixes to trance. It´s a shame really. If he feels that way that is fair enough and has to play what he likes but he will lose a lot of support. Still can´t believe he´s gone so darkside on trance.

If you are planning on seeing him in Ibiza then his stage show is amazing but that is the end of the line. Cream and Be are going to be the trance nights this year. It will be interesting to see how Armin fits into Space.

I think that he has probably grown out of his trance days the sounds of it,oh well at least Space has Armin,Gareth Emery,Sander Van Doorn,State of trance etc etc etc

Not forgetting A&B and the trance boys at Cream. Why they don't have their own Anjunabeats/deep night is crazy

Yeah why aren´t there more trance nights in Ibiza. It´s still big and always has been. 8 of the top 10 djs, according to DJ Mag, are always trance djs. There is just cream and Be@Space. There is judgement sunday but that´s quite a skanky night.
More trance nights on the island are needed. Big english trance nights like Godskitchen and Gatecrasher don´t have a night. Gods should def do one.

8 of the 10 most popular producers in the top 100 dj mag are trance DJs ;)

Gods and Gatecrasher both used to have nights out on the island, but have pulled out for one reason or another over the years. Theres also judgement sundays. Laugh if you wish, but they do have the likes of Ferry Corsten, Arty, Alex M.O.R.P.H and Cosmic gate playing.

Tiesto said he was bored with the genre, and thus decided to change. He's stilling selling out his Arena tours, so his appear is still quite big, just not to the Trance crowd anymore. Fair play to him. To quote Armin 'Don't be a prisoner of your own style'

I actually quite enjoyed seeing Tiesto in Privilege in 2009. Wasn't so keen in 2010 (was one of the worst nights there, but that was due to who I was with rather than the night). Will see him once this year

I saw Tiesto @ Privilege on my 1st night ever in Ibiza in August 2008

He was quite Trancey. I have a few videos which I ought to put online.

Some him again in September 2008 and he was still playing Trance.

Skip forward to September 2009 and there was the odd Trance song mixed in with mianly house stuff.

The last time was probably the worst night I've had in Ibiza. Still good. But not 'up there' as being memorable.

I saw Tiesto a few times years ago when he played @ Cream and he was excellent. Saw him last year @ Privilege and he was guff.

As much as I like trance I think as it is now is more or less right.

The big 3 all have main residencies, plus the next big hitters such as A&B, Emery and Ferry are also tied up in these nights. Any other nights will have z-listers.

10 years ago in this country there were loads of massive weekly trance nights, Gods, Gatecrasher (i think was weekly), Cream, Slinky, Peach, Passion and Gallery. Gallery is the only weekly left!

Don't think theres a big enough market for more trance in Ibiza

Don't think I have seen Tiesto since his Cream Residency days. He was amazing when he used to do Cream. I'd of been interested of seeing him at Privilege but not if he isn't playing Trance.

It's a shame that Trance has kind of faded out of Ibiza. Cream will always be the top dog for Trance in Ibiza though.
Gods haven't been in Ibiza since 2002 when they were at Eden and Armin was resident for them. Their nights at Amnesia back in 1999 and 2000 were immense and almost on scale with Cream, shame they had to leave Amnesia.

Slinky did Ibiza once in 2002. Didn't have the best line ups though which was disappointing.

Judgement isn't as bad as people make out IMO.

to all the haters... it's his decision which kind of music he plays/produces. i agree that tracks like "C'Mon" feat. Busta Rhymes totally suck and are just commercial ****. but I love his las vegas cd. i'm more into house than trance, so IMO his switch is great. listen to "slumber" (Las Vegas Cd) and tell me that it isn't a "goosebumps-track" when he'll play it in privilege!

was going to ask the same question about Tiesto, as will be there for opening party n June and already seen SHM on previous visits.

I'm doing some videos for a DJ website whilst there so i'll let you all know the real truth! By all accounts the show visually is a must anyway so that will be fun either way.

Cheers all
Gio

Ibiza love you!

@gio
whats your oppinion on SHM at Pacha Ibiza?
hard decision for me to choose between shm and tiesto.
shm is very expensive and didn't hear good things about the club capacity.
