What really grosses you out??

Hey, besides mayo and dill, what is Russian food like?? I haven't a clue. :?:
Most of it's pretty run-of-the-mill stuff. Meat cutlets, fish, potatoes (boiled, fried, mashed), mayo-based salads with chopped up veggies and stuff, rice, buckwheat (grechka).

I quite like a tortellini-like dish called pelmeni, and a crepe-like dish called blini.

The best food out here is 'ethnic' food from elsewhere in the former USSR, like plov (rice pilaf with lamb & carrot) and lagman (a hearty, spicey soup with lamb, homemade noodles, garlic, and pepper) - both from Central Asia. There's the Korean salads (carrot, khe w/ fish, cabbage) which aren't mayonnaise-based. Caucasian food is great too, especially harcho (an Azerbaijani soup) and pretty much anything from Georgia (one of the top 5 cuisines in the world, imh-but correct-o).

I forgot mayo and dill.

Russians put mayo in practically every salad type of salad and love to sprinkle dill on top of every dish. Drives me absolutely friggin' crazy.

RANK 8O I would starve!!

Thank god for Morbyd's insightful answer - I got hungry reading it, and straight from Moscow! From my limited experience with Russian food, I've found it very heavy. Beef stroganoff and Chicken Kiev (with the butter right in the middle of it) are delicious but fill me up quick. Lots of beets and potatoe dishes as well. http://www.waytorussia.net/WhatIsRussia/RussianFood/MainCourses.html

Hey - what do you call it when cows are masturbating? Beef strokin' off!

geez... I forgot beef stroganoff and chicken kiev :? Must be slipping as those are two of my favorites (though the latter is Ukrainian ;) )

There's also the soups - borsch (beet/cabbage/beef), solyanka (hearty soup with sausage, cabbage, olives, capers and whatever else), schi (cabbage soup with meat).

Borsch, often mispelled as "borscht" in the US, is actually of Ukrainian origin as are vareniki (ravioli-like dumplings with potato or cherry inside).

Of course, I can only name the two most popular dishes of Eastern Europe! LOL I didn't know Chicken Kiev was Ukranian. I love the way the butter rolls out when you cut it in half.

I'm getting hungry and this thread was originally about things that gross people out! LOL

Russian food definitely is definitely not gross. :D

Oh ya... sorry... I digressed
(at PachaGirl's prompting though ;) )

Nosepicking is something I can't stand to watch.

LOL I know, I am hungry too now! Russian food sounds yum. I like fancy food too, but I could live off plain ol' steak and potatoes :P

LOL @ phil.... What about a good burp? I barely EVER do that other thing (people think I am lying, but I swear I almost never do, ask Anjali) but I am burping queen lol. Only in private or around friends though lol.

sometimes my burps make the support beams of our office building wiggle    >PG flushed knowing she just shattered any lady-like images of herself that may somehow still be lingering on the board lol  <

no, no room for bodily noises from females.

Do it discreetly, blame it on the dog... WHATEVER YOU MUST DO!!!

I once went out with a girl who was a true master of the trouser blaster.

:?: what are those?

1. The words, "MOIST" and "EGG"...GOD I HATE THOSE WORDS THEY MAKE ME SQUIRM.
2. Cockroaches
3. What I call "fake fruit." e.g. Maraschino cherries, those mushy strawberries in ice cream, apples in apple pie.
4. Feta cheese
5. Black and/or green teeth
6. Watching those shows with a baby being born with all the fluids and icky-ness, it makes me dry heave. 8O
7. Hearing a person eat a banana, or something that makes that gross mouth noise...

Probably many others, as I am bothered on a consistent basis... :D

HAHAHAHAHAHA

I was about to comment to you about the old people who chew on nothing...THAT brought me to tears, I was laughing so hard.

STILL BALLISTIC
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

The old people thing hahahaha. I know we'll all be there though, but I just can't handle that Super Poli-grip smacking noise they make hahaha. Its like STOP! There is nothing to chew!! HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

The mouth when it is either chewing on itself or chewing on something soft like a banana just has that gross, STICKY, sound like SMACK SMACK SMACK and you can actually HEAR spit, if that makes sense. UGH :? IT MAKES ME WANT TO VOMIT. My dog does it when cleaning himself at night and I scream at him to shut up...It gives me nightmares. I dub it "Banana Noise."

I'm glad you get what I mean though...

I anticipated the phallic commentary, and always welcome it :D

BUT it is specifically the banana that grosses me out. There is something about that sound that is just WRONG.

pmsl

Things that gross me out are:

Hairy moles
People talking about moles
Ash trays/cigarettes etc
The smell of someone who has just put a fag out on a rainy day (or any day, but particularly, on a rainy day) and sat next to you on the train
Pubes left on the toilet seat (here at work, dirty cows, blurgh)
Hair down the plug hole (makes me gag, even though its mine :? )
Hospitals
