Most of it's pretty run-of-the-mill stuff. Meat cutlets, fish, potatoes (boiled, fried, mashed), mayo-based salads with chopped up veggies and stuff, rice, buckwheat (grechka).PachaGirl79 said:Hey, besides mayo and dill, what is Russian food like?? I haven't a clue.![]()
I quite like a tortellini-like dish called pelmeni, and a crepe-like dish called blini.
The best food out here is 'ethnic' food from elsewhere in the former USSR, like plov (rice pilaf with lamb & carrot) and lagman (a hearty, spicey soup with lamb, homemade noodles, garlic, and pepper) - both from Central Asia. There's the Korean salads (carrot, khe w/ fish, cabbage) which aren't mayonnaise-based. Caucasian food is great too, especially harcho (an Azerbaijani soup) and pretty much anything from Georgia (one of the top 5 cuisines in the world, imh-but correct-o).
