I also thought Gattling Gun initially, but as Stuie and Nitefly suggested it does not make much sense.

The author of that article is "San Miguel", surely a nom de plume of Spotlight club man in the know Dr Mick.

Said Senor Mick has been to virtually every major party this season- how much sense would you be making?

I may be wrong (but I'm right about religion :P )- but you can't fault my logic!

I know of the Civil War-era Gatlings... I didn't realize there was an updated 21st century version!

Well... now you do ;) . The Civil War one was a top feed one using a magazine. The 20th century version (not the 21st century) is a belt fed version.

I thought we always just called those machine guns... is it the rotating barrel that differentiates it?

Isn't a Gat "The Original" BB gun from back in the day?

Then achieving perhaps tannoy like marketing success as becoming the name of the broad market range as a whole?

And as some BB guns can be converted/carried as a threat, thats maybe where it comes from?

Pretty much like Mark Sun said.

Wikipedia Article:
"Gat is a slang term for gun. The word enjoys quite popular usage in late 20th/early 21st century African-American culture. Contributors to the usually unreliable Urban Dictionary have proposed that this usage comes from the shortened form of Gatling gun, which is likely.

'Gat' was also a common term for a gun in the early 20th century. It has been suggested that the lead character Gatsby of The Great Gatsby received his name from this slang term."

From the Ibiza Spotlight article:

"I did this thing a couple of weeks ago. I did a really good interview, I thought. But obviously the guy wanted to spice it up, and he started talking about guns and gats. Which was really funny because on my show I don’t encourage that, beefs like 50 Cent and Jah Rule. I actually ban it."

Or how about a Saudi Arabian born, Pakistan and Texas raised Iranian who was educated at an Irish Catholic school where he completed his O Levels and A Levels prior to attending University of Texas at Austin to pursue Petroleum Engineering, and who is now living in CA, dresses far colorfully than the average Joe, loves clubbing, photography, traveling and a good knowledgeable discussion but is also a very pro-firearms dude 8O 8O   .

By the way, did I mention that my Dad was born and raised in Bangladesh (E. Pakistan @ that time) prior to moving to Heidelberg for uni, and my mom was born and raised in Rangoon, Burma 8O 8O , and her grandpa was knighted by the crown. Talk about a confused family   .

Nope! The barrel rotates in both cases. The Civil War one had a rotating hand crank with a magazine of 10 rounds, and the rate of fire was about 200 rounds per minute. The new ones that you see on the Apache, A-10, etc. have electronic motors that increase the speed of revolution making the Gatling capable of firing up to 6000 rounds per minute.

A machine gun is simply any firearm that will continue firing bullets as long as the trigger is suppressed. The Assault Weapons that you see own by most of the civilians in the US are NOT machine guns. They just look like machine guns but fire one round per trigger pull. And it is almost impossible (technically) to covert it into a machine gun, not to mention a Federal offense.
