What do you think about the Pope dying?

Does it bother you? Or dont you really care? Do you think the Pope was one of the best leaders the Catholic faith has had? Or do you disagree with his views (that contraception/sex before marriage/homosexuality etc is wrong) and think it's a case of good riddance :?: :!:

He did what he did well, but maybe its time for a young and more progressive pontif, who can actually get on with things. So I suppose I think that his death presents a good opportunity

Without wishing to offend anyone I'll say I think it is a good thing but the next one will have the same old fashioned views anyway.

I'm fed up of the media already, you cant put on the radio or the tv without hearing the word pope.

He's only human and he's been ill for a long time so why is it 'truly shocking' that he has died?

Old bloke dies = bad news

Old bloke who believes the above and is inexplicably followed by 1 billion dies = not as bad news

Sorry to those who this offends - I was brought up as a Catholic but while I believe there could be 'something' beyond science, religion and specifically organised religion and more specifically, oppressive religion makes no sense whatsoever to me.

His whole following exists because of years of peddling as absolute fact, stories which the Catholic Church now admits are fiction.

Here in Spain is Pope everywhere and every minute. At least you have the wedding to talk about

He did lots of good things, but also his conservatives moral attitudes are leaving the church really far from reality.

Anyway, I grew up in a catholic environement, my family is and I went to a priest' school, I can empathise with certains points of views of this religion but the thing that really puts me off of it it's the church itself and the pope's death it's the church in full action.

I'm not Catholic and I don't agree with a lot of views but I still think it's sad when anyone dies, esp someone who over the years has done so much for the people who follow him.

What about the people who don't follow him and all the bad he's done by holding back his followers from developing more liberal attitudes to life?

I find it hard to feel any compassion for someone who condemns your lifestyle!

Stuie,

I blame on him for his attitudes towards Aids, homosexuals, abortion and all that but you should remember he did really good things like trying to approach all religions, visiting every misery country in this world, blaming both Iraq wars and all that...

As Sil says for all the things he said and did that I don't agree with, he also did a lot of good and I don't think you can take that away from him.

alot of people in work today have said "hope he suffered" I didnt understand why they had said that until someone explained his views to me. I couldn't give 2 shits about it all, never really took much notice of him, it wont change the way I live whether he's dead or alive, and agreed Stuie about the media thing.

I couldn't give a monkeys!

...I've got nothing to thank the Catholic church for.
Historically, they've discriminated against every aspect of my existence.

ie - comdemning homosexuality and quashing pagan pre Christian religions (actually, that's quite forgiving - in reality they actually burned people at the stake with no apology).

Anger is a waste of energy so I'd rather say, 'Pope who?'

If the Dalai Lama died then I'd be upset.

Yes I'm aware that he did good as well Sil but just by promoting homophobia to his followers in this modern age leads me to think it's for the best he is no more!

A good world leader should address all of the problems in the world, not tend to some and magnify others IMO.

The problem is not the pope, the problem is the church itself.

Thank you b____ Stuie! *applause*

Organised religion is a profit making business based on written dogma which changes with the times and often contradicts itself.
There's nothing heartfelt or spiritual about calling yourself 'Catholic'.
90% of wars have been caused by religious conflict after all.
