Depends on the type of mango. I think most of the mangoes that y'all get in UK come from India, Pakistan or perhaps even Turkey. Speaking from experience most of the Indo-Pak mangoes are ripe when they turn yellow. Not many of them have a pinkish hue. There is one type though, called the Fazli which is usually green even when ripe. That is one huge mango, with each one weighing between 1-1.5 kilos, and most of it is due to the pulp as the seed is not big for the size. BTW, always smell mangoes before giving making the final selection. If they are ripe, you should be able to get the strong mango scent about 4-6 inches away from your beak.

thing is though, you can buy a mango from a supermarket and it won't be ripe for up to 3 weeks.
