What cd decks+everything do I buy?

Why go for CD decks?

I looked at all of them and thought they were overpriced for what they offer.

Went for one of these:

Mix MP3's straight off a Memory Stick, External Drive, PC or even Mobile Phone. All your music available with search facility, variable pitch control, pitch bend, jog wheel etc. etc.

Never looked back...

This could be exactly what i'm looking for. What mixer would you recommend Mr Jam?

I have a Vestax but also a Numark as a backup

Only us ethe Vestax because it has 3 channels, each with twin input so I can put the technics 1200's and the cortex in at the same time, plus a pc input and mic.

Also there's 3 outputs so a master, booth and record out.

The Numark sits at home ;)

probably not, youd just end up wanting something better, id doubt the pitch accuracy is all that great, meaning you'll be fighting with the jog wheel thing to keep the beats matched. maybe better getting a midi controller and running something like traktor through your pc?

Yep, seen a few of those dual cd + mixer units and the pitch control is vague to say the least. Imagine the difference between direct drive and belt drive decks and you're pretty much there...

Just one other thing.
With regards to getting the actual music.
Is there any difference in the quality between CD's and music which is downloaded.
Do people play downloaded music at clubs for example?

yeah they do

best to get the highest bitrate possible, 192kbps and upwards should do fine, but best to get 320kbps where possible. I wouldn't bother with wav files, its unlikely you'll be playing on a system where you would be able to tell the difference between a 320kbps mp3 and a wav file!

i read a shocking review of that HDC3000 btw, its on google if you google HDC3000 review, you'll find it. It was written in September 2007 though, and theresa video on youtube of the hdc3000 being tested in february and the guy says its got a firmware update. Problems the unit had were it was crashing and restarting itself.

(the review did say the hdc1000 was a great bit of kit though so im not picking faults)

Quite like the look of the Denon HD2500

If its fun your after dont buy cd buy vinyl! yes vinyl is so much more expensive but like you said you want fun so wont be needing to keep up to date with all the latest tunes etc.

2 x technics 1210's and a pioneer DJM 500 mixer!
