West End Revival: Art as the catalyst for change in Ibiza

It wasn't me!!!

I saw small graffiti on the painted floor. None on the wall mural (on Saturday night).

No doubt someone will blame drunk tourists for that and propose even tougher controls :rolleyes:
 
We called into the West end a few times on our little holiday recently and I must say I actually really like what they have done with the place. When you see it with your own eyes I think it really brightens the area up and gives it a kind of carnival look.

The sun shining down through the flags during the daytime or the contrast from the lights against the night sky gives it a bit of charm I think.

In the open area, where they have painted the corner of the walls, I noticed it was a bit of a magnet for young kids. They seemed to enjoy running around it playing with each other. Noticed a lot of people getting their photo taken here too. I was quietly enjoying a cider over the road. Prime people watching spot.

Night times there was lots of people sitting on the outdoor seats. Has a good atmosphere about it. Obviously the place is still a bit of a nutter magnet and some of the bars don’t look terribly inviting, but it is the west end after all.

When I was out for one of my early morning runs I decided to cut through the streets and down the West End main strip. There was a couple of blokes out with the jet wash van giving the place a good clean down. I’m not sure if they used to do this anyway, before the paint job, but it certainly keeps the place looking sharp.

I know we all like to have a bit of a dig at the Wezza sometimes, but I think this is a step forward. Hopefully over the next few years they continue making upgrades like this.

Just had a walk through and think it looks good. Main issue was turning into the streets around it, with virtually no business open it's dark as hell. I felt I needed to on guard a little, so a hammered kid at kicking out time could be vulnerable
 
Nathan Viva (i.e ex Viva Bar) has done a walk through of the Westend at 10pm and sadly looks quiet :(

New paving down the side streets can't be helping but these streets have had empty bars for years. On a positive note it does seem sitting outside on the main strip people watching is back.

Can only hope this idea of a nicer walkway between the Westend and Sunset Strip lures some over from Mambo/Del Mar next summer when the sun goes down.

I suppose it's working though, looking at that video.

More older people/families with more money vs the young "3 drinks for €7" types of old 🤷‍♂️

Question is though with less mass of people does it lose out in a diminishing spiral?

Guess time will tell 🙏

Defo looks a lot better though *ignoring massive holes in footpaths 🤣

Fair point, the bars may be making more profit per customer without the 'get em in at all costs and fill the bar' cheap deals.

I think next Summer is a key one, the building work should be done for good by then.
 
no real shock for anybody who has been here the last few years. It's over. I suspect those businesses which refused the grant to diversify will regret their decision in the next few years.
