Weekend Rundowns

Fri me and Tom were off work so drove 'up north' (actually to Stratford but all the southerners were calling it 'up north' for Global Gathering). Cos I'm a HMW  me and Tom had decided to book a room in a delightful inn just down the road from the site cos there was no way I wanted to camp with lots of 18 year old cybers  Got to the inn, checked in and waited for Rach, Paul, Jon and Bec, had a couple of drinks and then headed into the site where we helped them with all their camping equipment  As we're going thru we notice a dog and not a nice dog at that, then it's oh dear the dog seems to be taking an unhealthy interest in Tom 8O Tom has to go into a hut with a policeman 8O while we've all got to go thru. 5 mins later Tom calls and everything is hunky dory but he's probably going to be half an hour - I won't go into what they did to him but you can probably guess 8O  We eventually find an empty couple of metres of grass and proceed to put the tents up (well everyone else did while I ponced around with a rose - I'm never going to be a camper  )

Tom then appears, if I'd had a policeman up my bum I'd have probably been crying but Tom was so laid-back about it all  We then head into the main site and head to the Beach and listened to a bit of Tongy, then caught some of Guetta who boshed out anthem after anthem as only he can. Then Lawler came on who was my set of the first day, and then Deep Dish who were good altho Dubfire is in danger of turning into the Smokin' Jo of the partnership cos all he seems to do is ponce round the DJ booth while Sharam does all the hard work  Caught the last bit of Daft Punk and then headed back to the campsite for a bit of minxiness. Then we left the campers to their tents and we went back to our inn to our lovely comfy bed

Managed to get about 4 hours sleep and up and ready for part 2 and everyone came over from the camp site (after a terrible nights sleep) to use our shower and proper toilet  New recruits were added all the time with lots of Jon's friends and my sis and her b/friend and after lots of drinks we headed back to the site - fortunately no dog problems getting in this time

Headed to the Beach again and saw some of Erick who went down a treat dancing in the sunshine, then we saw ?? :? and then Fatboy on the Beach again who I really enjoyed. Then had to go on the obligatory fairground rides and then headed to see Tom's beloved Oakie  Oakie did not disappoint, one exploding moment after another and when he played Solar Stone there was simultaneously galvanising going on 8O  After Oakie we got a bit confused, I think we saw a bit of Armin but we didn't really have a plan, fortunately Paul had a braincell left and took the executive decision of seeing Josh Wink who was really good and then Eric Prydz who was my set of the wkend, proper dirrrrttttyyyy dirrrrrrtttttyyy house, that kept us all dancing til the very last record. Then headed back into the Godskitchen arena for the last hour and then attempted to find the campsite, not the easiest of things in our state :? 8O

Had a few drinks in the campsite which resembled a war zone  People were actually leaving their tents cos they were too destroyed to even take them down  Eventually me and Tom remembered we had a hotel room we needed to check out of so we headed back there and got home Sunday afternoon.

Absolutely blinding weekend, fab company and all the DJs we saw were on top form :D

Friday: Few drinks with work people then headed off home for an earlyish night. Just listened to music with my housemate and then fell asleep before my other housemate got back with her friends for a carry on so missed that...

Saturday: After a refreshing 11 hrs sleep  got ready to catch the bus to london for an afternoon date I had scheduled 8O - as you are probably aware I'm the king of bad dates  but this one went very well 8O 8O - ended up cancelling my dinner date with my friend to go to dinner and a party with him (+ etc ;) )

Sunday: lazy morning in bed  then off to lunch with my friend that I'd cancelled on saturday night. Around 4 made my way so the glorious soho pride where I met up with a work collegue, had a wander and eventaully decided to settle on the QX stage where they were pumping out the funky funky chunky house - was a very odd experience seeing all the Vauxhall gays out in the sunshine 8O  . Robder came and said hello with the pilchard and I realised that there was a distinct possibility that the weekend might go a little wrong from this point 8O 8O . And as usual it did a little 8O  but I was a good boy and went and caught the bus at midnight back to oxford despite the protestations of a spanish shoreditch type in red manolo blahnik stilletos 8O

Overall one of my most fun weekends for a long time, everything went right 8) and by that I mean wrong in a good way

What can I say, I'm a sucker for killer heels on a bearded laydee! 8O

Welcome back rob 8) I can feel my brain getting better after being overworked with delivering all those messages from 'the other side' 8O

I am still destroyed ....... 4 hours sleep since Fri.......

Fri: a quiet night planned before setting off to Belfast on Sat morning for a good friends wedding..... didnt happen - impromptu gathering round ours - got to bed at 5.00am on Sat morning, 8O up at 7.30am to pick up sis and hubby to look after Benson for us while we were away - all I can say at this point was we were not looking our best for the flight to Ireland....

Sat: got to Belfast, absolutely chucking it down with rain and high winds - it was really weird to see "proper english summer weather" after the past 2 weeks of sun, sun and more sun....... (I actually enjoyed it....  but my heart went out to the bride who obviously deserved a beautiful day for her wedding...:? :? ) checked into the hotel, played with all the gadgets - (I love hotel gadgets :D ) rounded up all the other wedding guests (who I was pleased to see looked as tired as us due to them coming up the night before and experiencing NI hospitality     .

Cried several times throughout the service (i was tired and emotional anyway) but it was lovely and best of all after the service, we came outside for the photos and as the bride and groom walked out of the church, the rain stopped and the sun came out - fabulous!!!!
The wedding do was just brilliant - everyone who had flown over had basically had the same idea and brought a variety of provisions 8O   so after the meal it just went bonkers, (actually it turned out to be the only way that the "visitors" could keep up with the NI contingent who are the biggest party animals I have every come across) - cue lots of dancing, socialising, drinking, piss taking oh and running around with children playing football (that would be me   and I have a wonderful bruise from ribs to knee and hip is rather badly bruised )through slipping on the wet grass when chasing a 5 year old and executing a sliding tackle (accidently) on my mates hubby and sliding about 2 metres on my hip and arse - strangely enough no pain at the time but today I feel like I have been kicked by a horse....

Back to the hotel bar where more daftness ensued up until daft o'clock Phil had to be carried to bed and propped up in the lift to get him to our room - I had to get two blokes to hold him while I pressed the buttons as he just kept sliding down the wall..... the flight home was a nightmare - very turbulent with several of the travellers from our party being sick - prop planes are not ideal after 2 nights of partying..... I could have cried when i got back home yesterday with delight at the throught of an early night and sleep...

Funniest moment - finding out we were in the RUC private club for the wedding do and most of the guests were policeman than nobody had basically bothered telling us (I should have guest something was amiss when we had to show ID to get through the barriers/past the two guards on the gate like   - oh and I figure you dont get many black people/lesbians in NI? (I could be wrong) Only because one of our friends, Diedre's girlfriend missed her flight from London , had to get the later flight and came straight to the do, when she walked in, gave Diedre a hug and a snog and it all went rather quiet....... which was a bit 8O 8O

Great weekend - I love NI - had a brilliant brilliant time.....

Friday very messy drunken night - had a good night with the banter but that was it. Visited old stomping grounds in Broughty Ferry but didn't enjoy being in one of them. Went to Reading Rooms in town to find we were the only ones there at half 11. Nipped along to a chavvy bar where I sunk a couple of Jager-Meisters and cant remember a thing after it - apart from being back in the Rooms dancing like a beatnik.

Saturday was hellish, mainly due to the drunken blackout and the obvious brain damage Id caused myself. Played pro-evo and watched rubbish on tinterweb most of the day feeling sorry for myself.

Sunday was still recovering but managed to help my folks by smashing up stuff that had been cluttering up the garage for years and taking it to the skip. Very manly way to spend an afternoon 8)

Last night went for dinner with a lady pal and shocked myself by ordering a Seafood platter - absolutely brilliant. I think Im going to make Fish my new thing as I was reading about it in the paper being good for you (omega 3 oils and the like). Got very drunk and was tricked into sinking a horrific drink (double baileys and 30mls of lime juice). Was told it was known as Lady's Revenge (if you've ever sank this you'll know why :?).

Passed out on my friends couch and got a can home in the early hours.

Amazingly feel fantastic this morning!!

:lol::lol::lol:

I cannot believe you have posted about Toms arse and a policeman on a public message board!

Genius

Quiet one for me this weekend.. Next weekend should be carnage

Hi Sarah,

Sounds like you had a great time at GG aprt from Tom's problems with his entry :o

Actually it's easy to make light of it after the event but it happened to a mate of mine at a "festival" when a so called plain clothes officer followed him out of the dance tent and demanded to search him.My friend complied with this and then once the guyhad given him a full check he revealed it was all a joke. Still to this day we talk about how much it sh1t him up,regardless of being genuine or not:evil:

Really interesting that you felt Lawler was set of Sat - I always seems to find he plays the best tracks whenever I see him and for me he was the best DJ at HI FI.Does he have a new CD out do you know,he's one dj I'd happily buy music without listening to first.

Second interesting point is that Eric Prydz was your set of the weekend,he is one DJ I have never heard live yet everytime I listen to one of his mixes (like the one from Sapce opening this year) I think he stands out as clearly hitting the mark on what I like.

I must make sure I don't miss him at this years SW4 8)

Fri: Headed out with everyone from work for a leaving do. Great night...can't belive that everyone in my office are just as big caners as me! Ended up all back at mine, finally getting to sleep around 1pm on Sunday.

Sat: After two hours kip, we all headed to a rave on a beach about 20 miles past Aberdeen. Arrived to find about 300 people and dancing in the sand dunes:p The music was spot on, and the sound system was aswesome!! Met a really cool girl early on in the night, so spent the whole time with her. Ended up losing her in a crowd though, and I forgot to get her number....gutted! Got back to mine about 3pm on Sunday.

Sun: Couple of hours of sunbathing in the late afternoon. I still feel awful today, have had to run from my desk three times to be sick:roll:

Tom actually said the policemen were alright (well as alright as policeman can be), as soon as he got taken into the bum hole inspection hut 8O  they said he would be let in but they had to do all the procedures so he got finger printed, had swabs taken out his mouth etc 8O They basically said they only would do anything if people were caught with 40+, also the police had a competition chart to see who could catch people with the most

See you at SW4 Ed :D

Friday: Meet the usual suspects at 52 to celebrate I just started my hols and the closing party of the place  Lots of food, drinks and smokes, left around 4
Saturday: my friend uri and I cooked a paella for 15 8O Three long sweaty hours in the kitchen while the others where enjoying our friend's terrace, the cold drinks and the laughing cigarretes. Managed to start eating by 5, had mushrooms as a dessert and ended leaving our friend's around 4
Sunday: beach, papers and sofa near the air con :D

So far, looks like everyone had a good weekend :D

For the 3rd week in a row, mine started a bit early:

Wednesday - The missus flew out for a week in Greece but I didn't want to use up more vacation this early in the year so I stayed behind. Instead, I went to the Sting concert which was absolutely great :D I'd never seen him before and he played the perfect mix of old Police tunes and his solo stuff (though sadly, the set didn't include a couple of my favorites). Afterwards, I went for "one drink" to a small club/DJ cafe where a DJ friend of mine organizes a weekly mid-week party. Really great time - good straight-up happy house tunes and a fun intimate group of regular clubbing types. 4 hours and 10 shots of vodka later I was heading home via the supermarket at 2:30am.

Friday - Went out to a huge, delicious steak dinner with some fellow expat friends who are moving to South Africa (Goodman's Steak House - highly recommended if you visit Moscow). Many many drinks later, we closed out the restaurant and stopped off at a pub for one drink. Then I headed over to club Dyagilev Project to meet up with another friend and attempt to dance amongst all the "glamorous" people-watching types. Saw a good catfight  Around 6am we headed over to club Mix for afters. I got home around 9am...

Saturday - ...and apparently talked to my colleague at 9:40 and promised to meet someone to loan them my camera. I have absolutely no recollection of this! First time in my life I've had a blackout incident   . I figured something was wrong when I woke up mid-afternoon and had a bunch of missed calls .

After pulling myself together, I went to a big Scottish charity party in Hermitage gardens where, for 30 pounds, you got all the free beer, whiskey, wine, haggis and other food you could consume, and a concert by the Proclaimers :D It's been a total flashback month for me with Nitzer Ebb, Stereo MCs, Sting and now these guys! They sounded very good live - pretty much just like in recordings though not much improv. I hadn't had haggis in ages and I love the stuff so that was a welcome part of the day.

Afterwards, I went to catch the last couple hours of an all-day event called the Afisha Picnic (Afisha being a nightlife magazine, like Time Out only infinitely better than Time Out Moscow). What a great event! They filled a park with several stages of alternative music and DJs, alongside arts, film, etc. It was a different kind of event than most music festivals you see with a really nice atmosphere. The organizers handed out frisbees, cushions and bubbles. There was a game area with fussball and several tables of Hungry Hungry Hippos  I saw a DJ/drummer quartet called Epic Soundsystem and a gothic rock band called Calla.

Saturday night was pretty standard fare - Club Fabrique until dawn, Mix for afterhours, then home to pass out at some point in the morning.

Sunday - Got up late afternoon, defrosted my freezer, went shopping for groceries and new shoes, made dinner, and watched "Find Me Guilty" and "Serenity" on DVD while sipping Bloody Mary's.

Friday - Day off work  Rushed rund trying to buy a last minute tent, then headed oop North to Stratford Upon Avon for Global :D After a few route changes we finally made it to the meeting place at Bab's and Tom's hotel. Also met up with Holly G and a few of her men ;) A quick spritzer then into the Global site. We managed to sneak in a crate of beer and two bottles of wine despite being told on the Global website that you weren't allowed alcohol. Global seemed to change their rules as they went along  . Thought everyone was in fine but looked round and uh-oh Tom seems to be having a friendly chat with a policeman 8O After a lot of tense waiting (and strip searches 8O ) it turns out Tom will be allowed in but not for a while yet. We all go and set up our tents (well, me and Rach seemed to be doing all the work while everyone else ponced about drinking and making friends with fellow campers  ). After what seemed like ages Tom was finally back, a bit annoyed but pride still intact  A quick round of drinks then into the Global site!!
Headed straight onto the beach to catch the last half hour of Mark Knight who wasn't bad. Next up was Tongy who played a fun set with lots of "RADIO ONE LET ME HEAR YOUUUUU" moments
As the sun went down we headed into the Bedrock tent for a bit of David Guetta. He never fails to disappoint me, some people say he is cheesey but at 7pm dancing in the sunset I dont want to hear the latest cutting edge tunes, I want a bit of happy cheese!
We caught the first half hour of Lawler but tbh he was playing it a bit hard and dirty for that time of day. The main highlight of the Friday for me and Jon was seeing Daft Punk. They were on about 10pm (I think :? ) so we rushed off to the Electric arena and got a good spot. OMG they were really really good. They played all the famous tunes, we had some proper exploding moments to "Around the World" and "One More Time". We stayed in there for most of their set but it was soooo rammed and very hot so we headed back to the Global arena to meet the others who had just seen Deep Dish.
The site closed at 2am on Friday so we went back to our tents for some drinks and minxiness. Finally crawled into our beds for about 4am, couldn't sleep because of the loud chatting and music playing from the tents nearby :spank: Plus when the sun came out at 8am our tent turned into a microwave so I was sweating and couldnt sleep
Back up at 9am and straight on the alcohol. Went to Bab's and Tom's hotel for abouy 11am for more drinks and some pub grub. Five more of our friends arrived plus Bab's little sister and her boyf so that meant our party was now 13
Made our way back into the Global site (no police searches this time thank god). Straight onto the beach to catch Erick Morillo who played a good set, then saw Fat Boy who was only ok. It was so busy you couldn't really hear him that well so it was kind of like watching it on TV 8O
Oakey was on at 10.30pm so we were all dragged to the Global arena for a bit of trance action. He was reaalllyy good though  Played lots of boshing trance and we all had a good 2 hours in there. Had about an hours rest afterwards, sitting outside the tents with drinks and cigarettes.
I went into the D&B tent for a bit of DJ Hype and MC Shabba  which was my best set of the night! Reminded me why I loved raving so much back in the day ;) Also caught a bit of Micky Finn then left there at about 2am. Managed to lose everyone and only had half a bar of battery left on my phone so was getting a bit 8O thinking OMG am I going to spend the rest of the night on my own  Thankfully met up with a couple of mates by pure chance who had working phones and then we managed to locate everyone else.
Saw a bit of Hernan Cattenaeo then caught all of Erick Prydz set - also another favourite of mine. He played a brilliant mix of dirty pumping house which was just perfect for that time of night when everyone was feeling a bit worn out!
The last hour we spent in the Godskitchen tent for some more trance, not sure who was playing :? but it was a nice easy set to dance along to.
Left after the last tune of the day at 6am :!: then back to our tents for drinks and laughs.
Finally crawled into my tent at 8am and woke up sweating like I'd been cooked in a microwave 8O Got home by 5pm last night, had a curry then straight to bed, perfect end to a perfect weekend :D

Rundown: One of the best global's Ive been to, probably because of the great company but also so many good sets from the DJ's. The weather was perfect, mostly hot during the day then cooler at night. Only one spot of torrential rain but thankfully we missed all of it as we were in the tents at the time.
I don't think I'd camp again as I've realised you just CANN0T sleep in that kind of environment - too loud, too uncomfortable and too hot! It was good fun but next time I think it's the upper class hotel for me

Alright mate?

It was at a place about 20 miles past Aberdee, just before Newburgh. There was about 25 DJ's, a huge soundsystem, and a great atmosphere. Proper old school raving....loved it!

Come and join the old fogeys in the inn next time  ;)

I worked all weekend.

Big cabaret night on Saturday and an epic George Bernard Shaw play called "Back to Methusela" all day Sunday. (And yes, it's as boring as it sounds...)

No partying for me, but such is life in the theatre, dahlinks!
