Its not only the hiked costs that do it for me - its when you book a table and they put a time limit on how long you can stay before the next lot of bookings !!! I wont be told how long I can spend at my table....
You went to the wrong restaurants thenI was just in the States for a week and never had that problem!
your prob right....I mostly experienced it in middle to lower of the range, top end (for top dollar 
) were fine!!!!
And the fact that you get a set menu which means that as a veggie I get oh one choice of each course
