I didn't go out last weekend as I clubbed to excess the weekend before and I wanted to rest up for this weekend and also for Ibiza in two weeks. Also I am a dinosaur from the early days of Beyond -- when it really was a clubbing phenomenon with an unbeatable vibe. The last 2 years had seen a steady decline in quality and numbers and so I would only go there once every couple of months. I didn't want to go to the last Beyond as it would have been like attending the funeral of an old friend! And, personally, I think Beyond (under another name) will return to the Coliseum in a few months time! Ultra @ Area (the new Crash afterhours) doesn't have much energy or vibe and I fear that Horizon @ Renaissance Rooms is too large for a week to week afterhours (same problem that affected Beyond when it moved briefly to The Fridge) and, with a half empty room, will not have much energy. So look out for the return of Beyond at coliseum in all but name!
As for Later, I know exactly what you mean about it being packed to capacity and too crowded to dance on the main floor (but I usually dance in the mirror room or in the smaller room) however this has not been the case for the last 3 or 4 weeks because of the great weather. People have decided not to spend their summer afternoons in a dark club! So if u want to enjoy space at Later now is the time to go. Also, Later has recently opened a terrace complete with tables and chairs, a bbq, tents and a paddling pool (this in part to give G overdosers a place to chill and get some food in their guts!). So Later currently feels very different to usual....when I go I spend most of the time sunbathing out on the terrace (I get free entry with my Orange card) and every hour or so will pop in for a quick boogie (I even boogied inside Later in my speedos a couple of weeks ago for about 10 minutes -- a mini Bora Bora experiment!). The vibe at Later is totally different to normal (very enjoyable but not necessarily as fun) but it is a pleasant way to enjoy the summer sun in an environment where people won't stare at you because you are wired!
I'm surprised to hear you say you find Later has attitude however as (along with Orange) it is probably the place with the LEAST attitude. One of the reasons me and my mates go (and one of the things that friends from abroad or out of town comment on when I take them to Later) is that people at the club are sooooooo friendly (not the security though!). The atmosphere is usually so happy and uplifting -- its like the entire club is one big family. I guess everyone has their own impression but that is certainly the view that I have heard expressed most often and is undoubtedly the reason for its success. Certainly I regard DTPM, Fiction, Trade, Salvation, Juicy, and the old Action etc as having a lot more attitude.
If you see me out at Ruby or any of the clubs (this weekend or any weekend) say hello!
