except I've got the Music Police (PRS) in checking on me!
What does that entail?
PRS (Performing Rights Society). They were in my hometown in April last year. They turned up at my pals venue and listed every track he played for 30-45 mins. Then introduced themselves to management and then to my DJ pal and asked to see the orginal CDs he had just played. They then listed every track he played for the rest of the night.
They are supposed to be checking up on DJ's to make sure they are not using pirate music off the Internet and using genuine original bought music. In the next few weeks every DJ in my area removed every CDR from their collection and the music took a nose dive.

..........and I
accidently reformatted my laptop hard drive.
They also turned up at another venue around the corner 2 weeks later and did the same.
The rumour mill has been rife ever since. There is a claim that you must have the original CDs/Vinyl on the premises where you are DJing. Keeping CDs in the car boot outside is an alternative. But, vinyl!!! Not a chance, after over 28 years DJing I still have every bit of vinyl I ever bought. I've got more vinyl than HMV in Newcastle!!!

They are supposed to want to check every single tune you play!

Could be a very long night rummaging round my record collection at my house. Again, this is only rumour.
If they were trying to catch you out, why ring up a month in advance and tell you they are coming?
After looking at their website TBH I'm not too sure if that is exactly whats going on. I'm beginning to think it might just be researchers for PRS & MCPS that are getting a representative list of what you are playing to the public to pay the royalties to the relevent artists. We pay them an annual license of £1,500 for me to DJ there. I am the first computer DJ they will see in my town, and if they just want a list, thats easy, can just print it out from the computer at the end of the night, saves them all that writing.
Will find out on Saturday and, if I'm not locked up, I'll report back what really happens.
