we are telling people that we dont want gifts as we have lived together 2 years, we just want peopke to contribute to the honeymoon fund.

They have already been on their honeymoon. Can you think of anything that you would really like other than money??????

That's apparently really common in France - couples just set up a system with their travel agent, and guests just put money towards that for them. We have friends here that did that and their honeymoon was virtually paid for.

In Spain is very common to set up a short list of items in a shop and then your guests go to the shop and choose what they want as a present.
The bank account Lou mentioned is common aswell, altho in some regions you get the bank account number included with the invitation, in my region if you get the bank account with the invitation people will think you are a freak

dunno, a luxury item maybe? something we would want, not necessarily need....maybe like has already been said, a nice wine, personalised bottle of champers or sommat? :)

Yes Silv....the bank account number was included on a little piece of paper attached to the invite....IN THIS REGION TOO....we think they are freeeeaaakkks!

I dont like that idea...."Oh hello...pay some money into my bank account to pay off my mortgage / my weekly shop at Mercadona / clothes fund....etc."

Much prefer to "donate" to a honeymoon!;)

In Madrid it's very common and nobody will look at you as a freak. Actually for what I know in the south of spain the tradition is still worst: people give an envelope to the groom and the bride during the dinner and it's not surprising if there's empty envelopes 8O

Beat that, few weeks ago we went to a wedding and in the invitation it literally said: "si quereis hacernos felices xxx-xxxxx-xxxxx" 8O 8O 8O 8O
I thought they would be happy just with our presence 8O 8O 8O 8O

PMSL at the sponsoring a goat, sorry. I don't think that would go down to well

I actually bought a nanny goat and a kid goat for my friends wedding in Ireland, cost me £25 for both out of the farmers free paper in Co Mayo......

The kid goat was cheap because its penis was facing the wrong way, which we didnt know about at the time - until Mark (the groom) told us it p155ed up his field - but as he was standing behind it he caught it full flow up his trouser leg!!
