Wedding Choices

I know there is already a thread about getting married in Ibiza, but I felt it was easier for me to start a new one with the questions I want to ask! :)

Me and my fiance (still find it weird saying that!) want to get married on a beach in Ibiza next year. We were hoping for the begining of June, but now realise that May would probably be better.

Ive been in touch with Gemma from Ibiza Weddings and also had a look at the Can Truy and Up Hospitality sites. We met up with Gemma last week and from what I can gather if you want to get married on a beach you have to have your reception in one of the restaurants there, is that correct? If so can anyone reccomend any beaches that dont have a restaurant so we are not obliged to have our reception there! We want to hire a villa for our reception as we would like to keep it private and have our own DJ but we still would like to get married on a beach.

Also with Can Truy, is that a place, a restaurant, a villa or what? Also where is it on the island?

If anyone could give me any help and advice as to what to do, or if you have got married in Ibiza I would love to hear about your experiences :D

Cheers :D

sweetie, we are currently updating can truy's website and the new one should be online in a few days.

we are also making an 'all about weddings' page which should give you all the info you will ever need.

its an old finca just outside Santa Eularia off the main road back to Eivissa. It is best described as a restaurant that caters for large functions (several hundred) it has an inside and an outside, you can have sit down meal or buffet style a nuevo-traditional catalan/NZ cuisine fusion (:?).

This is a very good idea and i thought about suggesting it not so long ago. Luckily I'm only a short boat ride away and speak Spanish, otherwise it would have been confusing.

SS, in ibiza you cant legally get married outside of a church unless its in Can Truy. We didnt fancy doing it in Can Truy, so we did the legalities here (mainland) and had a blessing at Atzaro. It was as good as a wedding and as far as our guests were concerned it was (with a real english vicar (as opposed to an actor as offered by some  )). We did all the vows etc etc.

If you want any contacts for flowers, photographer etc etc pm me and i'll be glad to help !!

Quite a few of the venues actually. Can you imagine it, it would have felt soooo wrong in so many ways !!! They all thought this normal and said loads of Brits hire actors !! Its because a genuine priest wont marry you out of the church, and most Brits either want it on a beach/boat/villa etc etc.

And i suppose if your doing the actual marriage before you leave for spain then to some it wouldnt matter.

It's not that strange, in Spain you can't get civil wedding anywhere, just in the city hall, the "juzgados" and similars. Also, in most places, they only celebrate civil weddings in working days, so lots of people get married on a thursday in the city hall in their jeans, and then have a "wedding day" on the weekend with all the show, and they have and actor instead of a judge or whatever. As a guest, you would never know if it's a true wedding or not.
I never heard of an actor for a blessing tho

it depends of the places, because here in Mallorca some mayor love to marry people so there are willing to marry you in the culture house or in a olive grove if they want, , to do you the favour, a friend of mine had a little house in a olive grove and the mayor went there and did the ceremony while all the guest watched with a cold beer in the hand. Ofcourse, this is a favour and probably happens in little villages. This 2 wedding were hold on a saturday.

Ok cheers :) I dont think its going to be the thing for us as we are only having about 20 guests. But Im intrigued to know what nuevo-traditional catalan/NZ cuisine fusion is??? :?:

I understand that its not going to be legal if we dont get married in a church, but thats ok as we're going to legalise it when we get back to the UK (its another excuse to wear the dress again in it  ) I cant believe you were offered an actor lol!! But then again if they didnt tell you would you really know!!! 8O

The problem we have is the language barrier, me and pauly can speak pigeon spanish, so would have no idea how to sort things out like flowers and stuff, plus we wouldnt know if we were being ripped off 8O I quite like the idea of someone doing all the legwork for you  thank you tho.

The thing we're struggling with at the mo is finding a secluded beach to get married on where we dont have to eat at the restaurants on there. I know we wont have it completely private, but I dont want loads of people watching!!!

can truy is perfect for parties of all shapes and sizes............they can arrange it so no matter what the size of the party it feels just right.

nuevo-traditional catalan/NZ cuisine fusion = meat cooked in the ground the traditionally mauri way with a load of catalan dishes on the menu too!

i understand sil's point of view but still it seems just so wrong to me that you'd have an actor. If it just a blessing then anytype of spiritual person would be better or even to be a bit original..........someone you know.:D

Oh right! Would it be private tho seeing as there would only be 20 of us? I mean would they split the restaurant up and have a few functions on at the same time, or would we have it to ourselves even tho theres only a few of us? Also would they let you have your own music?

The food sounds intriguing! ;)

the langauage barried shouldn't be a problem, nearly every venue that you are likely to get married in will be able to recommend photos, flowers, etc, etc..................if you do do it on a beach then i, liam and others can recommend people who would provide these services. I think Mcrackin has a cousin who is professional photographer!;)

your problems are thus:

1) there are practically no secluded beaches in ibiza during the summer
2) if you manage to find a relatively secluded beach then you still run the risk of random punters just wandering along the shore with their dog or kids or whatever.

solutions are thus:

1) do it on a private(ish) beach and use the restaurant as the place for the reception or whatever
2) don't get married on a beach.

yeah it would be private just for you. the only problem would be they require a minimum number of 40 or 50 or 60........can't remember, so you'd be paying for something you didn't need.

however, this may still be a better option if you like the place and you can cover the minimum cost.

Hmmm I see what youre saying. Gemma told us to maybe get over the problem of there being loads of people there was to get married in the evening but I dont think I could wait all day to get married, I might change my mind lol!!

It is seeming very difficult to get married on a beach :?

One of the other options Gemma said was to get married in a villa instead, then it would be completely private and we could have our own music etc etc, this sounds great but in my head and heart I really wanted to get married on a beach :? Aaaarrrrgh!!!!! It wasnt meant to be this much hassle lol!!! 8O

Do you think a wedding coordinator is a needless costly luxury then? :?:
