it's already a few days ago, but still, here's a short review from last monday's cocoon at amnesia...

we arrived at around 130am and the guestlist queue was impressive. ticket holders got in quite fast though. the line-up was sven väth and extrawelt (live) in the main room and loco dice plus marco carola on the terrace. as i had been almost only to the terrace when i went to cocoon this year, i thought we'd go to the main room this time for a change. sven was already playing, the main room was already very busy. at 2am, extrawelt did their one hour live act. they had their pc's, synth's and much more equipment in the middle of the main room on that podium which i thought was brilliant. do you remember their 2006 biggies "titelheld" and "soopertrack"? they played them both and more cool stuff, of course. at 3am, sven was back in the dj booth and had a famous visitor in the box aswell: carl cox. but it was only sven who played. generally, i am not the biggest fan of sven väth, but that night he really rocked the main room. by 3am, the main room was really full, but surprisingly it never got as bad as the terrace. when we shortly went over, we noticed how super-duper-packed the terrace was! i think the terrace at cocoon is the new main room in a way, it's the busiest room and also both vip's were VERY busy! friends who stayed on the terrace were raving about how good loco dice and marco carola were!

one advise for people going to cocoon this year: come EARLY. last monday they closed the guestlist at some point (some people waited for more than an hour anyway to get in through guestlist) and a bit later they also generally stopped people entering - it was the first sold-out event this summer! and now with august beginning, i think it will keep being like this for the next weeks. so don't arrive only at 3am, come around 1am, find your spot on the dancefloor and enjoy...

re afterhours: there are still afterhours happening. no official cocoon-ones, but various smaller ones...sometimes with cocoon-people appearing or even playing, many though just in a private house/villa or in a small bar in town...

Nostrum's rewiew is perfect! I was there too and all the time I rest in the main room listen to Capo Sven and Extrawelt live. Very good music! Cocoon finished wen the boss of Amnesia get the cables out of the table music of Sven... (7:00) 'cause he was 'keeping music, more and more... insaciable!.
Really good party. I just went one to the terrace and it was overbooked too... and the vip as well!!.

Go early... is the best advice! ;)

sven. GO HOME. you mental b*stard.

thought i saw carl cox up there. random.

Great review Stivi. I was Cocooned two Mondays ago. Can't wait to do it again at the end of the month. :D

I was there on the 28th too. Best night ever. Great music and crowd - everything was just perfect and the little after party we went to was fab - hot and sweaty but great. One pretty mashed up night! ;)

I really enjoyed Extrawelt and in particular, I loved how a lot of the people on the dancefloor were blissfully unaware that they were playing on the podium in the middle of the main floor, and had their hands up in the air praising the girl doing the lighting up in the DJ box! :D :D :D Funny stuff.
Never been a fan of Sven Vath but i thoroughly enjoyed his set and would definitely go see him again.

The only shyte thing about the night was leaving. :(

I was there too an! It was very good, but last Year the sound was better and harder... I hope i will be at the closing! :)

I was there on the 4th August. Unbelievably overcrowded by 1am. The busiest I have ever seen Cocoon by a mile. It tailed off a bit at 5am- then you could dance a little instead of standing with your arms by your side crushed!

But all in all a good night.

Richie Hawtin played a better set than Sven I think, but you are right about the terrace- it certainly looks and feels like the new main room now! :)

in what way does the new terrace feel like the main room? better music? busier? better atmos? different layout/design? please explain as i haven't been since 2006.

The terrace dj booth has moved to the end of the room, which gives it a much more focused feel, and with the new fixtures, fittings, sound and lights it's by far the more attractive of the 2 rooms (imo). Add to that that you can now see over the entire dancefloor from the balconies at the end (where the toilets are), space at the edges to catch your breath, and the retention of the old terrace feel with the trees and stuff, and I have to say I love it. Also, and this is a big point, it's no longer just a room where a secondary dj is playing, all the nights now have viable alternatives to the main draw.

I always loved it, but now it's ace.

Couldn't have put it better my self! The main room feels a lot smaller and as you come through the terrace to get to the main room- it does feel like you are walking into a sideroom now.

Especially in Manumission. The main event takes place in the terrace and this is the busiest room.

Are people debating over whether its longer now? I felt it seemed a bit longer.

Not sure why I'd always had the impression that 2nd room was bigger than the main room.
Didnt know they've changed the DJ position either, interesting.
