Walk The Line

Not sure if anyone has posted about this, I have been away for a bit :P

What an amazing movie. To me it almost ranks up there with "Ray." Always been a fan of Joaquin Phoenix (remember how much he made us HATE him in "Gladiator"????), but this is by far his best work. I never thought of him for the part, but its amazing how much he more he embodies Johnny Cash just by throwing brown contacts in his light steely blue eyes :P His phenomenal talent covers the rest.

I believe that most, if not all the singing is by the actors. WOW!! In some parts if you close your eyes, you might think it is the real John. That is crazy for me to say, as I grew up with Johnny Cash records playing at my grandpa's house. And Reese Witherspoon is far beyond her "Legally Blonde" days in this role. Pretty, angelic, countrified voice... think she sounds almost as great as the real June Carter.

PG highly reccommends. Go see it in the theater, as the music is clear and boisterous, a very "concert" feel... celebratory and bassy.

An exerpt from an online news source "The Conservative Voice," a source I like to consult from time to time. Features Joaquin's performance....

"The film features a career-defining and nuanced performance by Joaquin Phoenix, who was specifically chosen by Johnny himself. Phoenix brilliantly depicts the troubled, stubborn, and brilliant man as if he`d actually walked a mile in his shoes. Like Jamie Foxx`s approach to Ray Charles, he truly embodies the spirit of his subject. He does his own singing and guitar playing (and does both remarkably well), but it`s not the timbre of his voice that makes the spell work but the fact that he appears to believe every word he says and every note he sings. He gives form, but more importantly, he gives soul to the role, so effortlessly expressing the late singer`s hopes, fears, and dreams. Such authenticity in a performance is rare."

He is one of my favourite actors.

One to watch then i take it.

;)
P.S. Did you see him in the lesser known file "Return to Paradise"?

Drew, Yes, I have seen it!!

Yet another poignant performance by Joaquin, definitely worth a watch. Vince Vaughn surprisingly soulful and affecting as well. I say that because I saw "Swingers" and then this movie lol. I thought he was just a goof... but he proved a lot in this flick.
