Not sure if anyone has posted about this, I have been away for a bit
What an amazing movie. To me it almost ranks up there with "Ray." Always been a fan of Joaquin Phoenix (remember how much he made us HATE him in "Gladiator"????), but this is by far his best work. I never thought of him for the part, but its amazing how much he more he embodies Johnny Cash just by throwing brown contacts in his light steely blue eyes
His phenomenal talent covers the rest.
I believe that most, if not all the singing is by the actors. WOW!! In some parts if you close your eyes, you might think it is the real John. That is crazy for me to say, as I grew up with Johnny Cash records playing at my grandpa's house. And Reese Witherspoon is far beyond her "Legally Blonde" days in this role. Pretty, angelic, countrified voice... think she sounds almost as great as the real June Carter.
PG highly reccommends. Go see it in the theater, as the music is clear and boisterous, a very "concert" feel... celebratory and bassy.
