Big fat dissapointment, after this being one of the main nights I wanted to attend this year in Ibiza....

Sasha
Steve Lawler
Jacques Lu Cont
Audio Fly
Desyn Masiello
Pete Gooding

No Sasha, the Discotecha didn't even open so no Masiello. Was really looking forward to seeing them too  Apart from the missing DJ's I reckon this was the worst night I attended in many ways, flat atmosphere, quite empty.... I think Audiofly warmed up for Lawler and they played alot of good tunes but I just was not feeling it, no sign of Jacques Le Cont either we left early so he may well have come on after Lawler but I reckon Lawler was playing the whole night out... Was anyone there?

For me too, this was the worst night of my trip there, besides me and my mates are big fans of Steve Lawler (that was the only good point of the night) :
- All the other rooms were closed (The old Terraza, th Premier étage, The Discoteca and and the Red Room)
- Space was empty (maybe around 100 people when we arrived at 1h30 (supposed to begin at 10 p.m.) and at 3 a.m. the New Terraza (covered) was almoste full
- No crowd, no Space Spirit
- Left at 5 a.m. no Sasha and no Jaques Lucont either

And last but not the least, the week before (Josh Wink was spinning for 200 people) so this venue is really to forget!!!!!

And Steve Lawler : Please, please return back on sunday (you were the king of terraza!!!!!)

Cheers,
Tao

Was a couple of time there, and that was it. No atmosphere!! No crowd!!
In my opinion the worst night I've had.

I was there for the opening night. It was only advertised as Lawler playing (Sasha was yet to start his residency)

It was a slow start, with the new covered terrace being opened up a bit later than expected. Had a great night, but found Slam playing music a bit too hard for my liking.

I believe Audiofly warmed up, then (1am) Clive Henry Then (2am) Lawler , Then (4am)Slam.

It was a very busy crowd in the new undercover terrace, but other areas were quiet, but i wasnt too bothered about that.

I am interested to hear that the nights have turned out to be very quiet, and its a shame. Does anyone else have any feedback?

Im glad it's just not me then, I was talking to my mate at the night he is a big Lawler fan also and we both agreed that this night will not be a goer next year and that we both hope Lawler makes a return to Sundays.

It's a shame and I dont know why it isn't working, another friend and his gf who where out a few days before us went to the wink night and they described it exactly the same as I did for the night in question.

Space seems to be getting some really bad write-ups this year from people on this board

Can anyone tell me if We Love has also been a bit disappointing/substandard this year?

I really hope not as I plan to go to 2 of them - the penultimate and closing parties!

my fiance was there for WLS this weekend, stonking line-up,and turned up late evening, said the place was practically empty compared to other years, no atmosphere, said she'll never go back - absoloute rubbish.

on a more positive note, she said DC10 absoloutely rocked.

out there in 2 weeks time, and all the reviews i've read have kept my expectations very, very low..

It was less busy though and it was the birthday, i was suprised but that could be due to the fact the clubs alot bigger now than it was?

viva at space

nice review Prince...Mr WE LOVE wants to make more money, with this night and i think he will loose a lot...
SO NEXT YEAR NO MORE VIVA....and i hope steve lawler will be back on sunday..

I feel so bad for you guys. Sorry to hear that Space sucked.

It seems like Space really emptied out after the Radio 1 weekend. I remember during the second week of August, even without going inside I could hear the crowds from across the street and the whole Space scene was rockin'. It was on a few more days and nights than WLS and made me want to go in. Then around the 15th, 16th, 17th, (I flew home at 7AM on the 18th) I noticed things getting quiet very around the PDB area. I was surprised, isn't that early? The closing parties aren't until the end of Sept.

Spoke to about 7/8 people who've recently returned who said Space was very disappointing, compared with previous years anyhow.

Quite surprising as all these people are Space addicts

space is the place?

maybe i was on a different planet or something but steve lawler smashed it at space when i saw him. a nice balance between good atmosphere and room to dance. didn't spend much time in the rest of the club tho, cos its all about the new terrace! 8)

was there at the wink night, there was certainly more than 200 people there when we arrived at at about 1:15am. the terrace was probably as full as you'd want it ideally - if the other rooms were open and has the same numbers. the short set times meant substandard music, hard to get into so we left.

i though wls was awesome, but we dont go til night. it was again as full as i'd probably want. good atmosphere all over.

the new terrace adds to space imo but the demand for the club doesnt reach into that extra 1000 or what ever people it can now hold.

what has the night been like for carl cox? the flyers read like it was all on the new terrace.

its dissapointing because the discotecha is such an awesome clubbing room.

We were also very disappointed on that 18th of august... Had been waiting for one year to see Sasha at Space again (we had seen him at WLS at the same period last year and it was just... fabulous!). We really thought the thursday concept would be a success...
but actually we already had a doubt has we were surprised there were so small commercials for it (you could even hardly see the name of Sasha...).

But dont worry for us... ;) we still had really good times for the rest of our trip

(sorry if my english is not good)

 WOW, this does suprise me, I went to the opening and it was busy and it rocked and all dj's turned up......as for WLS I found the atmosphere as good as ever and I was very sceptical about 'the rennovations' to the terrace so i needed to be won over and was......the vibe is still there you just have a little more space to feel it ;)

There were a lot more "brits" especially with football tops in June, the atomosphere was a bit slack - not so many screaming spanish people with their hands in the air leading from the front... The music early on from Sin Plomo was really going somewhere but after that Tom Novy lost the atmosphere a little - which seems to either peak or die around 6pm quite often.

Just went to WLS on Sunday and it was excellent (-Sasha) - again quite a few people who i would have expected to have joined a pub crawl in the west end instead of a club marathon in space, but everyone looking like they're enjoying it.. The DJ's and the Music are what i care about first, and that reflects off anyone, good dj's seem to pick a path and lift things, all the afternoon / Evening DJ's played excellent sets, much better than earlier this year - which renewed my faith.

I'd place the blame of the lack of original vibe at the door of the lineup for the late evening ... aka "Groove Armada, smash up ya face now... " i had to laugh when i read the current issue of Pacha magazine - an interview with G.A. saying how they loved dropping Superstylin' ... well so did everyone the 1st time they did it (which for me was last year) but now they are in the Guiness Book of Records for playing it so many times... they should be.
If you listen and watch when you go clubbing in Ibiza - the house nights tend which a lot of local's (i'm generalising a bit!) and a good vibe, tend to play the tribal sound.. even X-Press2 seemed to play a record (on one of the 6 decks / 3 mixers) which simply had a tribal loop... to keep things ticking along to the rhythm... Lawler worked this sound too and thats what Groove Armada don't do very well.. (oh and they're really annoying and didn't seem to be having much fun either)... so i didn't stick around after James Zabiela for their set... headed for the door and something to eat.

So hopefully the lineup & vibe will return to Steve Lawler for next year - i don't know if it will happen though.

Clive

The reasons as i see it for Viva/Fundaction being empty or not as full as people expected it to be are:

1) Space is now bigger and have more rooms, thus its harder to fill it
2) The competition on thursday night is the hardest - Cream @ Amnesia, Yoshitoshi/MOS @ Pacha and the smaller players who seem to hit the last nail at Space's coffin; Monza @ Penelope, Underground, etc.
3) The PR of Viva/Fundacion night is probably not working or going int he right direction

I was lucky enough to choose Cream on the 7th of August when i was there, while some of my friends went to Viva/Fundacion and left it after 2 hours to join me at Cream. They claimed that Space was empty (or at least emptier than it should be), Sasha was a no show and only the terrace was opened.

As for WLS 2005 - I was at 2 parties so far of WLS in August and both rocked!
YES you got more room to dance and the club isn't as packed as it used to be (it was too packed in the past), however thats not a bad thing since the vibe is still there and it can really not be refered to as an empty club/terrace(s).

As for Cox night 2005 - I was also at 2 parties of that night and both were tremendously packed, but not over-packed (ie: Cream). The vibe was still there and the parties were great!

Bottom line: THERE'S (still) NO PLACE LIKE SPACE! 8)
