Vigilantes

i got home from work last night and there was police with guns and dogs surrounding my flat. Some crack head under seige.

Few weeks ago an immigrant got stabbed in the thigh because some random thought he'd been chatting up his missus.

Two months ago a prostitute got stabbed in the arm, neck and stomach. The newly installed CCTV, it turns out, doesn't work.

A couple of years ago a gunman was under seige. There was also various murders and stabbings. Mostly working girls and punters respectively.

Round about the same time a group of locals got together and ran the pimps/smack/crack heads out of town... There's not been much bother until a few months ago.

As a consequence females felt a bit easier about walking the streets. OAP's started going to the local pub again on a saturday night

Now i know vigilantism is not supposed to be the answer... but it worked!

And my heart goes out to anyone living in any of the bigger citys... this is Norwich for f***s sake so god knows what you guys have to put up with!!!

spot on mate, obviusly its prob not the most moral solution but i have seen 1st hand that it can work. In belfast its quite common in certain areas for scumbags that rob grannies etc to get a beating or even a bullet in the ankle from the local paramilitaries.

Ya, it's all fun and games until innocent people get hurt.

Vigilante justice is not the answer. It's just an escalation of the problem.

agreed but whilst the problem gets sorted people are still getting murdered, stabbed and trapped in their own homes.

what do you do in the mean time? stand by and watch? Its tricky when its on your doorstep

It's all a question of leadership, isn't it?

Look how Giuliani cleaned up New York. (then again, there were a lot of cases of overzealous use of force by the police in the process.)

Giuliani also tried his hardest to suck all joy out of the city. it's pretty easy to have crime free sanitised shopping malls. but don't try turning a city into one

I also believe in sorting the underlying problems as you do...

But while we're waiting for Blair to go all Giuliani on us what do you suggest we do? Can anyone really be expected to just stand by and let it happen

Yep, only last year somebody was walking their dog on a road quite near to where I live and got stabbed. In broad daylight.

Something's gotta give.
