Ushuaia Opening Party 2012

why not.....a perfect fit I would have thought

An ultra-modern Miami-style party hotel ? Can't think of any venue less in tune with the spirit of the '60s in terms of atmosphere and ethos if I tried. Pacha is quite another story and still retains a slightly shabby feel which suits perfectly.

Have you been to Flower Power lately???

Its far from a hippy party.. a large "my poo dosent stink" crowd. Paris Hilton was associated with the brand last year and shes about 5 galaxies away from a true hippy:)

^^. Is nothing sacred these days ? Just destroyed my illusions of being able to slide gracefully back into a comfort blanket of nostalgia ...

Not for most when its costing 70Euro to get into Ushauia!

I never moan about prices, but €70 for Guetta and €60 for Luciano is taking the pi--ss when it all ends at midnight.

This poses another question, which would be keen to get views on. To me Ushuaia is a pre-club venue and not a club. I love the place, and I've had some amazing 9PM to Midnights at a variety of events. However, I couldn't just go there and then off to bed. So when you take €70 + another up to €45 to go elsewhere it does give you some very expensive nights.

Also (and I never thought I'd be defending the big clubs here), does Ushuaia deserve so much of the pie?

Take Thursdays. Many people do Luciano @ Ushuaia (40-60€) and then cross the road to Kehakuma @ Space (free-€25€). The latter putting on line-ups like Seth, Art Department etc. surely when you are putting on nights as good as Kehakuma with a variety of acts, you deserve more €.

I get your greviance, but I think you're looking at it from the wrong angle...

Look at it this way: demand for Luciano/Guetta vs. demand for Kehakuma

Yeah, okay, this post isn't intended to drag up the old (boring) debate of the aforementioned being sold-out cheese meisters, but at the end of the day their appeal far outstrips that of a Kehakuma line-up (your personally opinions puts aside)

Also, Ushuaia capacity vs Space capacity.

Ushuaia could legitimately sell-out during peak season/openings/closings at the Guetta & Luciano events. I know Kehamkuma is a great night with an ever expanding reputation and fanbase, and draws a good crowd... but does it ever completely fill Space??

Even if it did, the fee of the DJs on the Kehamkuma line-up combined would still in all likelihood be drawfed by that of Guetta's & Luciano's individual fees, plus, assuming they will also be bringing along guest appearances. In Guetta case this could include US Pop stars thus increasing the €€€ moreso. So the venue have to "make their money back" ie. return a high profit % in accordance to what they pay out.

We may not like it, or agree with it, but its just how it works I'm afraid.

I hope all the mongs who like guetta and are happy to pay 70 quid to see him do sell it out and stay away from ruining what good vibe there is left everywhere else

Well, an interesting comparable is that the day of 123 Festival when Guetta is on also appearing are Sting, Labrinth, Fatboy Slim, Tiesto, Japanese Popstars and Pippi. The entry price being 65Euro.

The entry level VIP at Ushuaia starts at €500 per person...and you dont even get a seat!!!

Again, I would assume the number of potential admissions to the festival would far exceed the capacity of Ushuaia.

Plus the acts will be sharing stage time so to speak, so their fees will be scaled down accordingly.

As we have seen with Guetta a la his Dalt Vila appearances for the IMS, he is happy to reduce his earnings considerably for one-off special events - I wouldn't be surprised if this was similar, although I doubt he'll be doing it completely free.

His FMIF party at Ushuaia/Pacha are his party - as opposed to him being in an electic line-up spanning several genres of music - therefore if you happen to be of that persuasion, as a fan you'd be willing to shell out that much for the 'Guetta' experience.

SO very sad..but unfortunately also so true

Perhaps they need extra cash to pay off the sound police?

Really insane pricing. I thought they were stretching it when entry went up to €40 last season :?

Could be Sasha's night?

Doubt it - he doesn't usually show up in Ibiza before late July/August of late.. Thought Luciano was doing all the Thursdays this year ?
