It's the best feeling isn't it getting them out the way :D The day I finished my A-Levels (all those years ago 8O  ) we went straight down to Glastonbury and then the day after I finished my degree we went straight to Ibiza :D You feel like a free woman (or man in your case  ) when all those years of studying (or not :? ) are over.

Good luck in your final one :D

Thanks Sarah, only need one average grade now to get a 2:1, so I'm really pleased...must have been that blagging help you gave me with the dissertation ;)

Festival for me next weekend to 8) :P

'Blagging' 8O what do you mean  My questionnable research methods  ;)

Do you know what you're going to do now or are you just going to enjoy the summer off 8)

Well I normally work as a lifeguard in a big outdoor pool (yes, in Scotland  ) during the summer, but I fancy a change. Starting to look for jobs with marketing agencies up here, but they are few and far between.

Thing is, I can live up here indefinitely for free cause my mum owns property, but I really fancy London.

Any advice chick? 8)

I'm the last person you should be asking for careers advice after my career dilemma this week

Tbh if you want Marketing tho you really need to be in London Town cos that's where most of the work is and there's loads more opportunities. I can give you loads of Marketing Recruitment Agencies if you decide to move down, or even if you're just thinking bout it, let me know and then I can at least give you some names to contact and they'll be able to tell you what's on offer to you/salaries/etc before you commit yourself.

A lot of the big Marketing Agencies take graduates on Graduate Training Programmes, I've got some friends who've done that and the training is second to none.

That would be really good of you, cheers.

Up here (which is mainly oil industry work), there are larger employers like Shell, BP etc all looking for business graduates. I don't have to pay any rent up here, ever, so want to initially get some capital behind me before I make the move :?

Really want to get into agency side though (I think, salaries?) by the time I'm say...twenty four.

Any help would be much appreciated Sar :D

ps-hope my spellings ok, just had ten pints....and a cheeky sniff of poppers

Joining a big corporate company on their graduate programme is good move cos it opens so many doors to you, that's what happened with me at Tesco and I went in their Marketing department and then moved onto Agency side. It's all good on your CV. I'll dig out some names and numbers for you ;)

Hehe I want a sniff

Cheers, just PM me some name sif you could, cheers. There's lots of money up here right now, but I definitely want London soon :D

The poppers have nearly ran out...is it bad to be taking a sniff by yourself whilst having some Blossom Hill while waiting for your girlfriend?

Cheers guys, just one more left on Tuesday and thats my four years over :D Quite sad in a way to though I suppose

Wimpers, what are you studying?

Good for you Fergmeister! My 2 cents is that depending on the area you want to work in (clothing, oil & gas, etc.) look for a job in that industry. I may be wrong, but like the US I think in UK, also, if you have worked in a certain industry for a while (even though it is a broad field like marketing) it is not that easy to move to other industries.

If all you want is a good start with a reputable company either go for a boutique firm (specializing in marketing) or go for any (and many) oil & gas firms in the Aberdeen area.

The great thing about the Aberdeen area is that a lot of the folks are also working very closely with the Norwegians. At my previous job, I spent my first 3.5/5 years deling with largely N. Sea accounts (Statoil, Aker, AMEC, Shell ExProUK, KBR, TFE, etc.), and I saw a large number of Brits working in Norway. I think it would be a great point on your resume' (aka CV) if you can show that you have dealt with international clients.

I guess that was a bit more than 2 cents.

Best of Luck,

Laguna

Thanks for the advice Laguna :D

I think my initial plan of attack is to try to get onto one of the graduate recruitment schemes run by one of the many oil firms. That way, I'd get a good grounding in many different areas of business, as well as the good job opportunities available through these large firms.

Ideally, I'd like to work agency side from the word go, as it seems really interesting. However, they are few and far between up here unfortunately.

Anyway, its an exciting time, and I'm really looking forward to starting something new :D
