UNDERGROUND 2024 *GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN*

This sad to hear. If it other clubs stitching them, because no where can allowed not rinsing punters for every last penny, even more so.

I don't know what happened and the reason for the closure but this is actually very sad, especially as it happened on a night when homegrown talent were going to play which unfortunately don't get a look in more often than not by the big clubs.
Let's hope it comes back soon for the sake of the workers and the clubbers.

We won't see them open before loooong time, if the re-open one day...

Sad to read that article. Seems they have been done with every offence possible to stop any chance of a quick fix and re-open, a 60000 fine aswell, as someone said earlier bit of a coincidence with across the road opening back up again soon..

So okay, they actually operated as a club with just a restaurant license. Which seems to have been fine for decades now. Wonder what made the authorities change their minds all of a sudden : /

What a shame. As said above, hasn't been any issues for however long, neighbours have presumably never complained before.

If you were re-opening a notoriously hard to fill 10,000, the 1,500 capacity venue across the road closing done might net you a portion of those punters. sometimes. You'd maybe think whether some of regular night there, say 'Tini and the Gang' might take on one of your smaller rooms, because loyalty doesn't pay the rent...........

Is it that big? 1500? Thought it was smaller...this is really sad...

I guess everyone's a bit suspicious of the official story but without knowing the facts there's nothing anyone can do...

if you care about supporting the small fish, make the most of the others whilst you still can

This came to my mind too! What suddenly changed? Isn't someone paid enough to not care about a license? New neighbor? Does the economic situation affect a more detailed examination of licenses?

Underground ran the buisness without the correct licence from the begining and they were lucky until now.
It is not worth dicussing, who was the driving force behind the closure, neighbours, competitors or authorities.
I am sorry, but they made the mistake, they are the once who should be blamed

but if it was a rival using dirty tricks, it wouldn't matter even if they had all the correct paperwork, no?

I struggle to understand how a club can open and close through the seasons for so long and this not be addressed. I have photos from nights out in there 17 years ago.

Have the authorities discussed with them each time they open - well you don’t have the correct licence, but carry on and just keep the noise down?

Have they turned a blind eye as the place doesn’t give them any hassle? Or have Underground just been winging it and the authorities haven’t been doing their job? Which is hard to imagine as there aren’t that many clubs to keep administrative tabs on.

And the implications for the authorities if there had been a serious safety incident in terms of blame and insurance etc relating to licensing. It’s a fascinating grey area.

Regardless, to see this growing list of venues being added to the bins of Gone But Not Forgotten, shuttered with limited chance of appeal or redemption, is thoroughly depressing.
