Ok, so I've noticed there are a few more people this year than last year on the forums who like Trance music.

Thought I'd post up a thread (after Kimajy suggested it) for pointers to any good tracks, following either the older, 'trancier' sound or the newer 'club trance' sound that gets played these days. Or anything inbetween. :)

So here's my first contribution, and a favourite of mine for 2012.

Good thinking. I've noticed more trance fans around as well. Trance is secretly on the rise again!

I take it your all looking forward to ASOT at Privilege in Ibiza? I have to be honest i'm not a big trance lover, but I really like Progressive house & how you set your set up with a bit of punch. I have never been to an Armin night but I am thinking of going.

I do think Trance is on the up again though I play a lot of progressive in some of my DJ sets and have started to add a slice of trance. Going back to the 90's I went to The Haçienda one night with this Northern lass I was seeing at the time (she was amazing I must add) I always go back to this one weekend where time stood still for me it must have been 1996 the night and weekend was just one big party and sex from A friday night house party to Saturday at the The Haçienda to leaving sunday it was truly amazing. Up to then I had only ever been out with the lads clubbing it was a real coming of age time for, that's what trance did for me...:)

Cheers for the kind words about the podcast. If I've brought you back to it then amazing.

The BPMs in trance have slowed dramatically recently. It's something that has been particularly obvious in the last 2 years. A lot of house and electro influences flooding in. I'm hugely receptive to this new sound and more steady tempo that's being pushed and I love going clubbing to it. In fact, the sheer amount of that style around at the moment means it tends to dominate my podcast.

But, at the same time, I'm hugely protective of the 'old style' and it pains me to see established names turning away from the traditional 138+ stuff. Now you really have to dig very deep to find stuff that is really impressive from those ends of the genre. I really hope it doesn't die out any time soon.

But trance in general is on the rise, definitely. I would definitely recommend checking out Armin @ Privilege. I've said in other topics that I'm not sure it will match his night at Space but, as trance DJs go, Armin is still a master and hopefully he'll put on a bit of a show at Privilege. That's the beauty of Armin - somehow he manages to cater for long term addicts like myself and newer people who need something more accessible.

If i'm honest Wednesday would have suited me down to the ground in Space as I fancy Cocoon too. So it's one each week I think..8)
 
ASOT, Cream, Colors, Judgement Sundays all looking to have strong line ups this year. Plus Gatecrasher have said they'll be back at Privilege.

Trance is definitely going to have a strong year on the island and I can't wait.

I huge (Giant, actually) DJ for me at the moment is Markus Schulz. His deeper, darker trance sound has made for some epic nights out. Never used to rate him, but now... Wow.

Yeah, fully agree with you, mate. More and more people are realising it, myself included. The guy is a top top DJ. Sky's the limit for him.

Also, nice one on The Sky Is Inside You. Great tune, and hugely underrated. ;)

I'll always enjoy the more uplifting stuff, but it's not so common anymore. It's the 'club trance' / 'trouse' sound played in the clubs these days. I like progressive Trance though, and like Prog House too ;).

Thanks :). He used to be too similar to Armin in DJ style, so I always felt if I saw Armin, I didn't need to see Schulz. Then this 'Unicorn Slaying' persona came along, and boom, I sat up and finally took notice.
I think Gareth Emery has been amazing the last few times I've seen him too.

Used to Travel the country for Corsten and Above & Beyond gigs. Now I do it for Emery and Schulz. How times change.

From what I remember Schulz's style (including his label) used to be pretty slow, moody and dark. Pretty tribally and drum-driven. Great music, but not really club music per se. More home listening or warm up set stuff. Recently, he's kept it dark and moody but his sets are more driving and techy. Last few times I've seen him he's been flipping amazing. He's essentially become Armin but without the extra fluffiness that some people can't stand.

And he's such a character too. Not the greatest broadcaster, but generally, a potentially loose cannon!! :lol:

Agree about Emery also. His own podcast isn't necessarily that great right now which leads me into every gig I see him with a bit of doubt. But he always delivers big time in the end.

Haha, Armada's number two can't be as clinical as their number one. No white jackets (well, straight jacket maybe) for Schulz.

I don't mind Emery's podcast. It's a little bit different, far more EDM which is good.
