Trance djs I should look out for in Ibiza

Hi all,

I´ve been living in Valencia, spain, for the last 6 years and am well out of the loop when it comes to seeing international djs. This is because spain, unlike ibiza with the britsh influence, is totally devoid of trance and international djs. They just play minimal here which makes me want to die from boredom.

So I would like any good shouts about trance djs i should look out for when I visit ibiza end of June.

I´ve been into trance since I started clubbing in 1997 and my hero is Van Dyk. Must have seen him more than 25 times and always blows me away. Tiesto I put second. the other big two, Armin and ferry, I know less. never seen Armin as I heard he´s more cheesy and so never looked to see him. Ferry I saw back around 1999-2001 a few times and never made an impression on me.

Others I like but have heard little are

Above and Beyond - saw once and were great
Adam Sheridan - seems simliar to Van Dyk hence like
Sander Van Doorn , Gareth Emery ,Markus shcultz - just heard their essential mixes and liked a lot.

Dont understand the hype: Eddie Halliwell
Seen him a few times and seems to be a lot of show and no substance. I don´t rate his deck juggling/acrobatics as I think it ruins a trance set rather than help it. Dont rate too much his hard style (personal taste of course) and bad set progression.
But I give him credit for getting so big solo off djing and not producing as most djs get big from a few hit tunes they make.

so who is hot and not at the moment on the trance scene?

Thanks.

Armin doesn't tend to be that cheesy, but from my own experince (i've seen him a few times, including Armin Only), he tends to play more vocal tracks, and tracks that have been big (Future favorites and tune of the week) from ASOT. Generally speaking, it's an Armada fest, he doesn't tend to play a huge amount of non-armada tracks these days.

Ferry tends to chop and change what he plays every few years. I've seen him a good few times. Defiantly worth a visit if he is playing in Ibiza, he was amazing at Cream in 2009... in fact, at most gigs bar the last two (for reasons other than the music ruining the night), he's blown my socks off.

Gareth emery and Markus Schulz tend to play a lot of stuff similar to Armin, Markus especially. I don't rate either of them anymore.

Above & Beyond are awesome, especially if the three of them are on. You get so much more energy out of all three. They are due to release their Album, Group Therapy, in a few weeks.
Sander is very techie these days, it feels to me like he's beginning to move around from generic trance genre. Knows how to play though, he's been good when I last saw him.

John O Callaghan is worth a listen, he's pretty big at the moment, and is playing at a few Cream nights in Ibiza.

Super8 & Tab, Lange, Sied van Riel and Arnej are fairly 'hot' names at the moment, most of their production is amazing. Sadly, none are in Ibiza, as the big nights out there (Armada & Cream) only book the big big DJs, not the little ones. Which is a shame. Highly recommend Super8 & Tab's Energy 2011 set.

Eddie does something special in the form of his ED-IT sets. Unfortantly, I've only ever seen him play them at festivals. I highly rate him at festivals, but not at clubs.

That kind of what you were after?

I would never say Gareth plays stuff like Armin does, i went to see his 7hr set last week at Sankeys and it was one of the best sets i've seen starting off housey and becoming more progressive into full on trance.

Also almost every track A&B play is vocal..so how is that so different from Armin?

I've only seen Emery for two hour stints, and not recently (not in the last 7 months, anyway), so I guess I can't really comment on him anymore.

A&B are very much like Armin, but I much prefer the stuff released on Anjunabeats these days, versus the stuff released on Armada, which is what each of them tend to play. I'm happy to take or leave Armin live these days, where as I do like that Above & Beyond chop and change who is playing, meaning the night is always slightly different.

Yeah that is some great info. thanks. I´m from leeds too;)
Above and Beyond, Sander and O´callaghan are at cream on the 30th June. will be the night i´ll be looking forward to the most. best night at the best club I think. Not been to Ibiza since 2000. what have I been doing since then.
