That lists all train companies affected Bec.

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_bulletins/additional_info/Virgin_ticketing_for_RMT_strike_July_2006.html

It says there that if you've got ticket you can use it to travel the day before or the day after the strikes which isn't much use to you

Maybe ring up Virgin to see if they know anything else.

Nooo this is totally going to cock up my weekend :( I cant go any other day :x

I know they aren't the greatest but what about coaches?

I just checked National Express for Bec and they're quoting between 5 and 8 hours 8O

What about seeing if you can get a cheap flight??

Does Chester have an airport?!

Arrghhh I'm screwing this was supposed to be a nice girly weekend away with my mum :( I can't take any days off either because I'm pulling a sicky on the Monday so my work can't know I'm going away.

I'll call National Rail later and find out what we can do, at the worst I guess we could go up on Saturday afternoon when the strike is finished. Thats still losing a day of our trip though :x

Manchester and Liverpool have airports (we have embraced air travel up north you know  ;) ) and are both only bout 30 miles from Chester.

Can you go Thursday evening and take Friday off work sick as well? Difficult I know but just a thought ...

The strike starts from Thursday at noon though so I'd need that day off aswell. It would look dodgy if I was still sick Thurs through to Mon :?

Seeing as we paid £13.50 each for our train tickets (and my mum bought mine  ) I dont think she'd appreciate paying £180 each for a flight.

Thanks for checking though ;)

I just hope those cheating union strike scabs sort themselves out and call it off, the muppets!

  I just thought there might be some bargain flights going for about £10

Could you not drive as a last resort :?

Bec, are you sure it starts Thursday? We've had an email round at work (reminding us that it's our duty to get here despite lack of transport  ) that says it starts noon on Friday.

Helpful as always Miss G, you are correct, it is noon on Friday.... hmzmzmz well if worst comes to worst I shall pull a sicky on Friday too. Seems a bit dodge though, a nice convinient long weekend

That's what we were told as well, Friday.

Becs, I if you had flu or a heavy summer cold it would last as long as four/five days. And remember with flu you can't get to the doctor because if you have proper flu you can't get out of bed never mind find your way to the doctor ;)

It's only Tuesday, you never know it may be off by Thursday - fingers crossed for you.

Becky, its not certain what level of support the strike is actually going to have on the day so you may find there are some trains running on Friday anyway. I seem to remember that the last rail strike was very poorly supported by staff and only had a minimal effect in the end.

the political imbroglio the transport is having really needs to be sorted out.

always striking as far as I can see...

anyway like mentioned do not panic until Thursday cos things always change

lol it was 'word of the day' last week and I really like it; even though I did not know the true meaning at first. I got corrected and now I think I'm using it properly. The meaning is: -

1. A complicated and embarrassing state of things.
2. A confused or complicated disagreement or misunderstanding.
3. An intricate, complicated plot, as of a drama or work of fiction.
4. A confused mass; a tangle.
