Top DJs say ibiza "too expensive"

some funny and accurate comments here. the one about afrojack as an "ibiza veteran" and his comment on "ibiza lost its soul" - LOL

one of the problems i see is that traditionally the promoter gets the door takings and the club the bar takings (it's often not that simple). so what you have is djs and their agents getting ever more money, whilst the punters who enter the club have no more money to spend on the drinks once they get in - which leaves the clubs struggling to earn. this is the reason why the clubs are so keen to promote VIP culture - one vip guest spends much (sometimes much, much more) than a normal clubber.

i would also love to see drinks prices reduced. and i don't believe bar takings would suffer.

one important fact - VAT was raised for clubs from 8% to 21% in september 2012. that's 13% straight off profit. any business which suddenly had to pay 13% more tax would be looking for ways to limit this.

If they lowered drink prices, they'd probably sell more. A lot of people have the perception of super high drink prices so avoid going to clubs early and do a lot of the drinking before hand.

And yeah, but at least the water is cheaper and will last you longer.

I'm surprised that's how it works on Ibiza, in the UK most promoters are charged hire prices (which vary depending on the size of the club and/or act) AND take a cut of the door.

One guy who worked for one of the big clubs told me last year, that the reason they charge twice as much for a beer in a club compared to the UK, is because they're only open half the year. You have to smile at that logic, but it just doesn't work.

I do feel bad for clubs though in terms of the tax. It's the same in the UK. Tax, like so many things, is the reason for this extortion. They could charge a lot less, but when they're getting taxed so much, you do kind of sympathise.

the clubs ask for a reduced VAT of the drinks from 21 to 10% ...
and they are not amused that the beach"bars" only have to pay 10% VAT right now ...

Sanchez showed Bauza figures to show the damage that is causing the rise in VAT to their business, according to them.
If they get a reduction of 11 points, the state will collect less than 25 million (last year entered for this item 367 million) and in return the hoteliers in this sector will create 10,000 jobs, said the chief executive of Lime.

Sanchez explained that, today, the association represents 211 licensed establishments in the archipelago disco.
There are other 770 with permission of coffee concert or music bars.
In total, working on their premises 17,200 people, according to the data they handle.

The meeting was attended, besides Sanchez and Bauza, three representatives of clubs in Mallorca and three of Eivissa:
Ricardo Urgell, Pasha;
José María Etxaniz, Privilege, and
Pepe Rosello, Space.
