Paella... (English stylee ;) )

I dont like any of that fishy stuff so I am cooking paella con pollo, chorizo y becon (is that right Sil :? )
I've also got fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, peppers, garlic and peas. White wine, rice, paprika and herba to garnish.

I've never cooked it before but I saw it whilst in Ibiza (always with fish though :( ) so I thought I'd give it a try. Here's hoping I dont poison Jon 8O

Good work Becki!

Fish have always ruined Paella for me too! I always though what a great dish it would be without all that prawn nonsense.

Sounds a complicated combination to be honest 8O
Don't put chorizo, it's so strong that everything will taste as chorizo. Can you get any type of sauseges?

I want a pic tomorrow :D

Para quien cocinas esta noche?

Que significa Sil?

Dan - I know! All those prawns with their heads and tails on and lobsters... bleurgh! Give me good old fashioned chicken and sausage any day.

i was thinking of something to have for dinner tonight and i really fancies prawns!! perhaps i could try paella for the first time....!

anyone give me a quick recipe/method to cook it?

yeah, cool bex.........meat paellas can be just as tasty, especially if you're not keen on fish:D :D

as long as you get the rice right the rest is fairly easy, just bung it all in8O ;)

The main thing about paella is the stock for the rice. If yu can't be bothered boiling fish heads, etc. Just use a chicken or vegtable stock, not the same but better than plain water. Then the rest is easy.

oh and saffron ur turmeric

So does that mean my paella is ****?

No, it means that there's as many receipts as people cooking it ;)

Saffron it's too strong and if you add saffron everything tastes the same (tastes to saffron) try "Pimentón" (red sweet pepper or something like that) next time

I haven't actually seen that in England, I have in Spanish supermarkets. I shall get some when I am over. Thanks for the tip :)

Sirens, my granny is from Valencia and all she does is: she smashes a couple of garlies, parsil, black pepper, "pimentón" and salt till she gets a mash and then you add that mash to the stock and you are done. The Pimentón will give to your paella a red colour better than the yellow from saffron ;)

jjinit, what do you mean abut the black stuff? do you mean black rice you have in some restaurants? Best rice for a paella is Arroz Bomba, I doubt you can't get it in the uk, just use a traditional round rice (not basmati or similars) of good quality. :D

grego, gracias beautiful
