Tom Cruise

On what basis?

Because he made his missus have her baby in abject silence, or because he wants to eat his wife or whatever. Have a look where the sources of your opinions are from.

Have you ever suffered a painfull menstruation Dan? people says that giving birth it's X thousand times more painfull that a menstruation, so please, don't come and say it's perfectly normal when you are not going to live this experience, shouting or not shouting.

My opinions come from seeing and hearing him. Jumping in a sofa to say he loves kate and publicing he is going to eat that placenta. There's no need to publicy this kind of things, I like discret people and he is not at the moment.

Maybe, but knowing the odd life Jacko's had, I don't think anyone can blame him for his oddness. In fact I think it's kind of cruel to say he's a freak. You wouldn;t say that about anyone else with mental illness, brought on by years of abuse and backstabbing, so why jacko. He needs help.

He is a freak, he may have a "reason" to be that freak and he definitly needs help, but he is a freak. And to be honest, how many people has difficult lifes like him and behave more or less "normal"?

Most of them (about famous people) are. They keep coming up because there are legions of housewifes and gossips around the world that thrive on the bad news of others.[/quote]

If we were talking about a new appeard in all the yellow press then I would agree, but when it also appears in sources that for me are more or less reliable then this is not an argument. And actually after seeing him jumping in a sofa, shoutting and behaving as a teenager it's quite easy to belive it.

I disagree. One of the greatest hollywood actors of our lifetime. "He does what he does" nigh on perfectly. I appreciate some of his films aren't too taxing on the brain, though they entertain. The aim of (most) films is to entertain, and his do that perfectly IMO.

It's not about the films he does, it's about himself as an actor. He is very inexpressive and he only have two registers, this one :? and this one :D

Actually, Sil, that's one misconception about the whole silent birth thing.

It's the doctors, nurses, family members, etc. that are supposed to stay quiet. The mother giving birth is allowed to scream as much as she wants/needs.

The original source of this story was an interview Cruise gave to the magazine GQ.

He later disavowed the comment in a television interview with Diane Sawyer.

His quote (reportedly said with sarcasm): "Yeah, we're going to do that - a whole family thing. Isn't that normal and natural? No, we're not eating it."

No we are not carnivores! And actually dogs aren't either. Cats are.

Carnivore
1. A flesh-eating animal.
2. Any of various predatory, flesh-eating mammals of the order Carnivora, including the dogs, cats, bears, weasels, hyenas, and raccoons.

Using the first meaning of the word, yes, we are. Using the second, no, we're not (but dogs are!)

There's already a joke in Spain that says: a quick in the bollox to him for each scream that the mother can't shout

That makes more sense, but I can imagine that here nice words from your half would be much appreciated

Ok, the jumping on the sofa thing was a bit suspect, though I think he's suffered enough from it!

My point was that the silent birth thing (and placenta etc) is a LIE!

I honestly though you'd be able to see that?

You say you hate seeing his picture plastered everywhere, though you can't stop talkign about him?!

Do you have this opinion of every mentally ill person? Or is it ok to be nasty to him because he's got loads of money/fame?

So you make assumptions on stories from rags and tabloids and gossips? Come on Silv, you're better than that!

Ok, have a natter about it with you pals, but you don't seriously believe it all, do you?

I think he's a good actor, as I've said. Though you're welcome to your opinion, as I said, and we'll agree to disagree on that bit. ;)

My brother, kept the placenta of her two babies and buried in a garden with a tree. My brother is someone more or less normal, very hippy and that, but if he does this thing (he kept the placentas in the froozen till they were able to go and plant that trees 8O  ) why not someone who belives in Dianetic would eat this placenta?

I don't read tabloids, actually we don't have them in Spain it's a british thing. It was yesterday in all newspapers. ALL of them.
Do you know EL PAÍS, LA VANGUARDIA? If that's what you call a tabloid I don't know what to call any of your newspapers, starting with the most serious and ending with the daily mail or any of these things you have.

You are defending someone who in the last year, two years did very little for his public image and dignity.

Actually, Cruise and several of his fellow Scientologists (I've seen quotes from Anne Archer and Kelly Preston) have commented on several occasions that the silent birth thing is factual. Some people's perceptions of this practice are sightly off, however (the most common misconception, as with Silvia above, is that the mother is expected to be silent)

The placenta thing is questionable... as noted above, the original source was a GQ interview and GQ is not considered "yellow" press. However, Cruise did subsequently say on television that he wouldn't eat it.

I think Michael Jackson is a freak... anyone who would do that to his body must have some kind of problems!
I think comparing Michael jackson so someone who has serious mental problems is a bit far fetched. The guy might be the sanest person around, none of us know him well enough to say either or otherwise. Just because he acts dodgy and paints himself white you can't assume he's mentally impaired, maybe he knows exactly what he's doing!
Anyway, we dont owe Michael Jackson our respect or sympathy, the same as Tom Cruise, they put themselves in the public spotlight they've got to take the critism AND the namecalling.

I don't know, Becks... I've never quite subscribed to this idea that if you are a performing artist and make a lot of money off your music/acting/whatever that you immediately become fair game for all types of public ridicule.

They're still human beings with the same feelings they had before they got famous (though in MJ's case, he was only 5!). Free speech and all so it's your right to say what you want about them but on the other hand it's somewhat incumbent on us not to forget that famous people are people too.

Often their success depends upon media coverage so they've got to take some of the bad with the good. Nevertheless, the UK tabloid culture (and its fast-emerging American counterpart) often take things a bit too far, in my opinion.

That said, MJ has gone a bit over the edge... (though I think Dan is right about the ill effects of a supremely troubled life)

I get what you're saying Morbyd and if Tom Cruise or MJ were reading this board then of course I would be respectful in my views, simply because I'm not a rude person and dont believe in insulting people I dont know! (I only insult people I do know.. ha!). but as they're not I dont think anyone can say to someone "well you're being a bit harsh on old Tom/MJ, maybe he's just got mental problems" etc.

I mean, they're not going to read this so why can't we call MJ freak?!

over the edge???

My god, the world has gone mad. :o

Can't we recognise the fact that they were hero's but have now gone a bit, er, weird??? Both were hero's of mine when I was a lad, but I can't help but be amazed at the way they have turned out. Sorry if people find that offensive.

Anyone who eats a placenta, whether others do it or not, is messed up in my book. The guys lost it.

Eating the placenta was quite a trend for some on the 70's, to the so called "earth mothers" It is nothing new and it isn't weird. It is in fact very healthly. Nothing like a good bit of roast placenta :)

Morbyd, there's hundreds of actors and singers who keep their private life away from the media, if you don't place yourself in the spotlight the media will respect you. At least, here in Spain.
