Do I detect an element of sarcasm in there somewhere Rob.

No, more a guilty conscience. :?

Sorry i read it wrong.

I thought you meant 'we' as in everyone except 'me'

... but really you meant 'we' including 'me' ....... if you get my drift.

 ;)

to be fair to your stafff if your only giving a rise at the same rate of inflation then its not really a rise as they are not better off financially.

I give a performance based rise with a number of KPIs if they have hit those they get a set rise at the end of the year

if they havn't, well they'll already know about it...

The alternative is to pay each person what we think they deserve but we've done that before and they do nothing but bicker

The staff with the worst attitude are the ones on the highest level. They take their position for granted, but if i get shut they are the ones with most experience.

Difficult balancing act.

:(
Point out to them that it's actually against the law to discuss their pay. That might shut them up. Prolly not tho

Why should i give them more than inflation?

I have given those that deserve more extra, but why should i give those with a bad attitude more?

Not one of them even says thanks when they get a rise or bonus.

Having said all that we do pay occasional performance related bonuses.

We even pay them £30 a week attenadance bonus if they turn into work Monday to Friday. What more can a man do?

That's on top of their pay.

I know, that's why I am saying that it is ridiculuous to pay extra for just showing up to work. I can understand that if a big project came up, and you need their help, and hence, at the end of the year (or during the year depending on cash flow) you give them a cash award, etc. But paying for just showing up everyday on time is a bit out there.

We brought it in some time ago to try and stop the habitual monday/friday absentees.

It is a bit out there but it's down to them then. Is it worth losing a days pay + £30 for being hungover or whatever else e.g. the usual excuse "I've been up being sick all night"
