My very first trip over there and I spent just over a week. I really should've stayed a few more days. I also made the mistake of not planning very much ahead of time; I just tried to make it up as I went along and thus missed out on a lot. I only went to the 7 mega-clubs, and none of the others. And of those 7, I only went to each one once. But what I did do, I thoroughly enjoyed so I can't complain! Here's the club nights I went to:
Cream Ibiza @ Amnesia, 28 July
This was definitely a good choice for my first ever Ibiza club night! I got there around midnight and the club was relatively empty, but it filled up rather quickly. When I got there, Adam Sheridan was on the turntables in the main room, with Laidback Luke spinning the tracks in the terrace. I stuck to the main room that night and only popped into the terrace two or three times. By the time Eddie Halliwell took over, the place was pretty much packed; nearly every space that wasn't behind a bar had become the dancefloor. I was out there in the middle of it with my hands in the air, enjoying every second. Every now and then that ice cannon would fire its cold blasts, and when one is hot and sweaty that feels GOOD.
At about 2, Paul van Dyk took over, and all of us on the floor are losing ourselves in the moment. (although I would occasionally pop back over to the bar for another rum & Coke or vodka & Red Bull) I can't remember much specific, but I heard a lot of tracks I knew, including PvD's own "For an Angel," and a lot that I didn't.
After a few hours went by, though, I started to get tired, and I started to find myself leaning against pillars or sitting on steps just to rest. When you're in the middle of a packed nightclub with soul-penetrating music all around (not to mention ice cannons), AND you're sleepy at the same time, you know it's time to leave. I tried getting back on the dance floor but my arms, legs, and feet all felt like they were about to fall off. It took some willpower to get myself to leave though, because, well it's Ibiza! And Paul van Dyk in the DJ booth! But I did leave around 5 or so and caught a bus back to my hotel.
Fiesta del Agua @ Es Paradis, 29 July
A night I'll never forget! I had done my research ahead of time so I knew to bring a backpack with my swimsuit inside. When I first got in there, I really liked how the place was set up with the platforms and walkways and all. And plus when I first walked in "Insomnia" by Faithless was playing so I knew this was going to be a great night. After changing into my swimsuit and leaving my stuff with the gift shop attendant, I hit the floor (and the bars). The DJ, Steeve Valverde, played a lot of stuff with words people knew and could shout along with. Because of this, at the end of the night, not only were all my limbs tired but I had no voice left either.
At one point something weird happened. While I was standing back drinking one of my drinks, a girl comes up to me and says she wanted another drink but had run out of money. Ah, so...she's trying to get me to buy her one? This doesn't usually happen to me but OK. But as I'm about to offer to buy her another drink, she just pours a little bit of mine into her glass and walks off! Whatta hell?
So anyway from then it was uneventful until the prelude to the water part, where there's the girl showering in a bathtub suspended above the crowd. And then, the climactic moment of the night started when the water jets began filling up the center pit and for the next hour I was in that crowd jumping around in waist deep water. Definitely another lose-yourself-in-the-moment moment! People were dancing, jumping, splashing water everywhere...a few people sat on other people's shoulders too. There was also a lot more familiar music to be heard throughout this, some of which people could shout out the words to. Even "Calabria," but since no one actually knows the words to "Calabria" everyone just shouted along with the horn blasts. Best time I'd had so far.
You know how when you drop off your bag there, they put a wristband on your wrist and another around one of the bag's handles? My backpack still has the green wristband on it and I'm not taking it off until I go back next year.
This is getting to be long so I'll get to the rest later...
