The sunscreen debate continued .......

So, have we come to a decision as to which is the best/safest sunscreen to use?

I think i'm going to stick with P20 :?

:?:

Drew, I used to swear by P20 (see previous threads of mine) but someone I know who's a surfer allerted me to the fact that there's no UVB protection at all so it's basically useless.

Sure, you get a great tan with it and don't burn but what's the point if you're increasing your risk of skin cancer?

So it's Soltan all the way for me now. I used the new 5 star spray (with insect repellant which is well useful) on one of the few lovely days we've had this summer when I was out climbing and walking and I went a lovely colour and didn't burn.

The P20 site says it does have 'some' UVB protection, but allows a certain amount through so you get a tan.

I use P20 cos i'm lazy when it comes to re-applying every hour or two.

May give the Soltan a try ;)

So Clara or Drew, I think I don't understand it 100%
What's that Soltan thing? Is it a cream and what's the difference with the one I use? :? ;)

It's just a brand Silvia.

I just assumed it was probably same as all the others?

:?

Uh! Thanks Andy
The sun is very "strong" this year. :?
In Andalucía (spent 8 days in the beaches) we used screen 20 and we applied about 4 or 5 times and we got burnt a bit. I was tanned before going so be carefull. ;)

Soltan is Boots' own brand, however since they changed the formula this year so that it had 5 star UVA and UVB protection (the only suntan lotion on the market which does) it's had rave reviews and performs better than most of the more expensive brands.

I also like how it has an insect repellant in it.

I know, it's a pain as I've sworn by it for the past three years.

On the side of the packet it doesn't even mention UVB so I thought best to give it a miss and be on the safe side.

Don't you have brands like Vichy or Roche? 8O

Of course, but as I said, Soltan has come out top in a lot of studies and is an awful lot cheaper than those two brands!

You should try Banana Boat or Australian Gold, they're excelent sunscreens.

A factor 15 to 20 is good for the body, but you should use PS 30 or higher for the face because the skin is more fragile. Reaply whenever you come out of the water. It's good to shower immediately after coming back from the beach (to remove the salty water of the sea) and apply some moisturizer as well.

Vichy has suntan creams with UVA protection too.
My family has a pharmacy so I get lots of freebies from those brands ;)

I used to be a complete Vichy junkie!

All suntan lotions have UVA protection but Soltan has the most.

OK, understood. Somewhere it seemed Soltan was the only to have UVA protection.

So now summer's arrived, what lotions are we using?

Any new sooper dooper ones out this?

Drew, the highest protection the better.

Sun protection does allow you to get tanned but protect your skin.
I noticed that every year the sun is worst, I only need two hours to get brown and it was early may, that's not normal 8O

I'm using ISDIN, which is a pharmaceutical brand and been using it for years
