Showing as part of New York Week. How punk, disco and hip hop emerged in 70s New York. While a new wave of punk rock evolved in lower Manhattan including The New York Dolls, Television and the Patti Smith Group, downtown loft parties held by gay New Yorkers heralded the birth of disco, and Bronx DJs such as Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa created their own block parties, heralding the birth of hip hop.

Including contributions from David Johansen, Patti Smith, John Cale, Richard Hell, Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, Nile Rodgers, Chuck D, Tommy Ramone, Chris Stein, Fab 5. Watched this Monday night. It was good I knew most of it anyway but It was a lot better than watching Eastenders!
 
at the time the police were breaking on the pop scene the clubs were playing the first 'rap' records. i can remember colin curtis playing sessions at rafters in mcr featuring rap, jazz funk, and 100 mph stompers. the mid/late 70's were such a diverse time in britain.

Si! The Police 27th September 8O I've spent from 7 in the morning trying to get them on-line when a friend called me and told me they were selling them in a main travel agencies chain... which have one office just down the road. Two minutes later I had my tickets yay!
