The LONGEST x-mas thread on the board....

Christmas has always been a family time for me, and being 16,000kms from my family, it's a bit of a non-event for me, which is fine!

Last year I DJed at the Gallery Xmas Eve party with Above & Beyond, so xmas day was spent boshing jack & jills 'cos I was still up from the night before

This year I'll be spending xmas at the girlfriend's parents house :? ;) A question of ettiquette for the board - should I buy presents for all her family?? Or will a couple of bottles of wine and a few boxes of chocolates suffice...? :?: :!:

How long have you been with the girlfriend??

Me and Tom buy presents together for his parents but then I will buy them a little some extra from me as well. I'd say some nice wine/choccies/etc will be fine ;)

It will be the first time I've met the family, so it feels a bit presumptuous to buy them presents.. thinking wine/choccies and some davis (jk) ;)

I think wine etc will be perfect, presents will seem you're trying a bit too hard, I'm sure they'll love you and be welcoming you into the family busom with open arms  ;)

Is there any X-mas season plant? In Spain the flower shops allways sell hundreds of this for X-mas, that would be a nice pressie for the mom ;)

That's why from a young age we've always gone out with my Grandad (he's a vicar) on Christmas Day morning and popped into see people who haven't got anyone to spend Christmas with

Do you travel as far as the North East Sar? :?

Unfortunately, I'm not looking forward to this Christmas as for the first time in 26 years I will be by myself, on my lonesome. My oldest son, who still lives with me, is spending Christmas with his g/f at her parents. I can't even get pissed as I'm DJing on the night 7 miles away and need to drive.

Aww bless you Les ;)

I don't think my grandad is doing any of his 'special Babs visits' ;) this year cos he's just got over cancer and we really want to make the most of our family time but if we do I'll get the Babs mobile up into Geordie-land aemed with lucozade and rose ;)

But as I was trying to say in my earlier post (and it's not done to make me feel better about myself  ) if you are at a loose end this Christmas why not give a couple of hours of your time and do something to help those that aren't as fortunate as us. See if there's any volunteers needed in your local area on Christmas morning and you don't know what fun you might have and who'll meet.

I was speaking to someone the other day who is on his own this Christmas and every Christmas and asked him what he was doing and he said he just takes it how it comes and one of the happiest Christmas's he's ever spent was popping in to see his old neighbour who's husband had died just a few months previously and them 2 getting on the sherry, having the full works Christmas dinner, gettting all her old photos out, getting some old records out, etc..... you get the picture ;)

Christmas is what you make it, don't spend the day been miserable when you've got 101 reasons (new bab, new job, your health, etc etc) to be happy for ;)

God I get such a sentimenal Babs at Christmas time don't I  ;)

Aww, thanks for the thoughts Sar. Look after your grandad, he's precious.

Won't get in til 3am anyway as I'm DJing the night before and again Christmas Day night at 10pm til 2am, so will probably be sleeping during the morning. Wonder if there's any single divorcee's in my neighbourhood? Might have to do a reccy. ;)

You are a hero, Les. Spreading the true cheer that is cool tunes on a Christmas night to all those young'uns who've just escaped family occasions to meet up with friends old and new for a festive night out.

Been a good year for you, as far as I can tell. I say treat yourself and take a taxi to work and get on the sauce this time around ;)

Hero? nah, always worked Christmas & New Year, just part of the job (29 years DJing this month 8O ). Haven't drank while DJing since 1987, too much at stake from my point of view, forever the professional. S'pose I'll have to play lots of Christmas tunes, trying to hold off as long as I can. I go out for a drink during the week with another DJ friend, a club owner, a couple of taxi drivers and the taxi office staff, we all work weekends so we consider mid-week as our weekend, been known to leave my pals club at 6am on a Wednesday morning totally wrecked.

Yep, it has been a good year for me. I've doubled my DJ income and now no longer need part-time work during the week, aaaaaaahhhhhh bliss. I am now into an annual five figure sum just DJing.........and there's more to come sometime in the New Year with a Thursday night to be added. :P
