the article Mck linked in that old post above refers to the Rock Bar, which kind of answers my question. I did actually pop into the Rock Bar a while back but was a bit quiet. One of my friends knew Nick who ran it, and was sharing memories with some of the staff, but I didn't really know the back story.

Taken in 1969. Looks like someone's super 8 film has been cleaned up, with music added on later. The port is instantly recognisable but without the modern superyachts it obviously does look so much better. Progress, eh...
