The Evolution of Ibiza: Can the White Isle retain its legendary magic?

Go out of the season. Totally different island. Totally different crowd. Beginn / middle of may was relaxed. Crowd was ok.
Yeah me and friends usually go June or September as different vibe to mad peak season for this reason.

Just trying to put finger on what has changed in the dynamic besides use of mobile phones. 🤔

Edit: if prices €€€ people are going to want to watch the production more to feel got moneys worth, at expense of engagement with the crowd 🤷‍♂️

In the beginning there was the Balearic thing and people went to enjoy things that were not understood elsewhere. Before, "VIP-People" and "Jet Set" went to Ibiza, for example, to hang out naked and do beautiful things with each other, dance, enjoy life in every way and without anyone judging them or trying to secretly take photos of them. Before, they went to Ibiza to "hide" from the public and judgmental eyes.

Then came Club Music and the atmosphere was shaped with it, but the basic thing remained. Community, music, dancing and enjoying life were still strongly at the center of everything, anyone could be anyone on the dance floor or next to you in the toilet queue, without having to make a big deal out of it! People were united by the mystical Ibiza magic, which made many come to Ibiza, year after year, again and again.

Now superficial and self-centered, self-destructive kids go there so they can tell that they paid endless prices for VIP tables, huge bottles of vodka, Bali beds and etc.. This only to get good pictures for social media. 🤮

The pursuit of maximum profit eats (if it hasn't already) the spirit of Ibiza that many of us once fell in love with. Personally, I would see this VIP invasion starting already 15 years ago, together with the rise of Facebook, but the final countdown has started at the time of the big commercialization of electronic dance music (read EDM), which was led by marketing departments about 10 years ago.

I've been thinking about this in my head (and I know I'm not alone with this thought) so that as long as there are small places in Ibiza, such as Cova Santa, Pikes and Namaste, as well as many restaurants, and hotels that maintain the Balearic tradition and atmosphere, the spirit of Ibiza will remain and be preserved. How big a part it will be in the future is not in the hands of Ibiza or the parties operating there, but it depends on many globally important things such as, for example, economy and politics, values of life, wars, underground culture and different subcultures of music, and we should not forget the global warming. I believe that what we do and say matters too. Of course not in a big way, but we can share and teach younger and new comers, cause and effect from our own perspective.

Now, however, we are in a situation where the balance on the island is not good, and as we have stated many times, it causes great uncertainty and instability, which causes too many collateral victims and the situation is not changing quickly at least.

Yep. Sadly much of this applies to dance culture in general now. Whilst it's a challenging time for 40/50s who still want to go out and let loose, there are thankfully still committed communities around Europe that offer alternatives to the bullshit. I agree with Feynman that Ibz is effectively a cold season party spot now
