The EES/ETIAS experience thread!

My take on it is that it seems to be coming out where the worst instances have been reported, and where there is a second security point (e.g. Tenerife).

Although out of season have done it originally in Madrid in December, then Alicante in Feb and Ibiza in April. Nothing that made me think I wouldn't travel because of it (subject to change in summer madness!).

Ibiza staff were a little confused\confusing coming out but I find that is par for the course in Ibiza airport!

Can't comment on the process with a 1 year old

not sure if minors have to do the fingerprinting, but you need to hold them up to the camera to get their photo taken - not very technical I'm afraid!

From my limited experience - and I really don't mean this is any way to parent-shame, just merely my observation - children have as much right to travel as adults imo - it was this procedure with young children that was causing the delays, and not the the process itself. I was flying over Easter holidays and my flight was full of families.

I think the process itself, although could definitely be streamlined, isn't really much of a headache and was well operated with plenty of staff to give instruction and direct.

All that said, I'm sure a flight full of inebriated young adults could prove just as challenging as a flight half-full of toddlers
 
It was fine. We didn’t even have to do anything for my son either. Seems all a bit backwards as I thought the first time we did this we had to register and do the finger prints. I didn’t but my partner did 😂
 
Reading the latest news that the Greeks have dropped EES requirements - assume just for the summer but who knows? It's such a shambles in many places that if local tourist boards see UK's keeping away - or airlines complain about delays/compensation etc, we might get a complete rethink? Would be nice to think they could ease the situation by removing the need for UK's to be subjected to protocols and we revert to passport entry with no time limits if insured and can afford. That way they could concentrate on the minority of immigrants and the system might cope better?

But if Greece did abandon the EES - what sanctions could be imposed? I suppose removing them from Schengen would happen?
 
Here an update from Ibiza today: much, much slicker operation than it was three weeks ago.

A vastly improved experience for residents and even the person I travelled with who didn't have that privilege sailed through as quick as she would have done before EES.

The big difference was there were scarcely any children on the flight today.
 
No proof, but half-asleep i read that Spain are doing a Greece and abandoning EES for Brits this summer. Anyone?? I'll look into it and although - being winter and all that - I've not read any issues at IBZ - if true I'm immediately booking a few days in May.

Does worry me, if you go in and they stamp you, but not out, and after 4 months you return, don't get stamped in, but get stamped out, technically that's over 4 months between in - and out - therefore illegal! Apparently a tourist has to keep their air tickets to show - if ever asked - that you did, indeed, leave within the allotted time frame.

Trouble is - that's not proof you got on the plane!! I worry too much...!

Glad to read there was no problem at the airport; if you are still there can you please report on leaving, and where passport stamping/inspection is at IBZ airport (if it's moved from last season)? Thanks!!

it’s normally about every 4 months between in and out for me atm 🤣
