The dreaded malia....

A couple of friends really want to go malia next year and i've been invited along.

i no its nothing like Ibiza which I wish they would come experience, but its not there scene, if they came they would spend the whole time in the west end and nothing else... not willing to spend the money to get into the clubs etc.

So is malia as bad as its really made out to be if your heart is in ibiza?

Be good to hear from people with the same love of ibiza as me!!

p.s. were going for 11 nights in june :)

Dude, the fact you are already doubting this hol and comparing it to Ibiza does not bode well.

Malia was my last party resort before I took the plunge to Ibiza... I've never looked back.

Please bare in the mind the following is my personal opinion:

11 days is far, far too long for Malia. I did a fortnight. By the end of week one I'd had enough. There just isn't that much to do. The strip is a fair size, but as you already aknowledge, it's simply the West End.

The locals hate Brits (no surprise really, considering the damage and destruction caused)

You will hear the same 4 tracks on rotation on each bar you visit - my guess this year it will be DJ Fresh, Rudimental, Rita Ora & Nicki Minaj (when I went it was Pitbull, Black Eyed Peas, Crazy Cousinz & Lil Wayne)

PR are rude, pushy and nowhere near as informed or helpful as Ibiza PRs.

The beach is shoite.

If i was you, I would still go, but only for a week. Talk everything with a handful of salt, and try not to think of or compare to Ibiza. It just ain't gonna be. With the money you save from not going the second week, use to book a few days for Ibiza Closings (even if you book by yourself - you will meet people and make friends out there!)

I'm sure you will still have a great time with your friends, just take Malia for what it is.

Agree with everything that's said here, Malia was my last destination before Ibiza too, I got to be honest I thought it was terrible...a week is more than enough. There seemed to be fighting every night and cheesy trance in every place we went into, this was in 2003 mind so might have changed quite a bit since then.

Don't think I would visit there again...it's not a patch on Ibiza.

If your with good company though I'm sure you will have a laugh 8)

Enjoy

Went on a boys holiday near there when i was about 19. we didnt stay in Malia but down the road in another resort. Going into Malia in the taxi felt like going into a warzone. It was gash.
then again ive never been to the west end on a night out so cant compare

this would have been around 2002ish

on saving money and going to ibiza in sept alone for a few days....good example...I sold tickets tonight, met a guy alone as his mates mother died and obviously he flew straight back, I took him out, introduced him to some people and he now has the rest of his 5 day holiday booked up with things todo...do a week there then save the rest and do a week alone here and have a better summer for it!

The main difference between Greece and Spanish resorts in general is the lack of loved-up-ness, hence the greater threat of trouble!

mmm... its not looking too positive...

Well i've managed to persuade them to come to a few of the closings this year, so hopefully that will make them decide to go ibiza next year instead :D

I once declined a lads holiday to Kos. My mates all thought I was mad.

I know a lot of people who haven't been to Ibiza because they think it 'isn't their scene' or too expensive. I think a few of them would change their tune if they actually spent one night on the island.

Jeeezes... are you really talking about June of next year?

How for the love of god can you plan a vacation that far in advance? It's nearly a whole year!

I've only got my travel booked up until September, 2 months from now, and that was a stretch.

Malia old town is nice though

Yes, I will agree with that. The old town is very beautiful, quaint & picturesque. Lots of lovely little tavernas & restaurants. A far cry from the strip despite being only 5min walk away.

If you do go, eat here of an evening instead of the grill places u find on or around the strip.

Its the type of group that gets an idea and if it doesn't get booked within a few weeks doesnt happen.... so kind of have to book way in advance :spank:

I did Malia in 2010 then Ibiza in July 2011...

Obviously they are totaly different, apart from the west end of course and my personal favourite....well it just doesnt need to be said does it really :D

Every one is different and like different things, personally i would not have a problem with going back to malia on holiday and that say it all about me  haha

11 days is a tadge too long - a week was just perfect. We met a group of manchester lads who were there for 2 weeks and most were ready to go home after a week.
Its just the same type of thing every night - so for 2 weeks straight - its a bit much.

We had our fave places but there was this one particualr bar at the top end of the strip where it goes off in to two (bar on right) where it specialised in fish bowls - you HAVE to go there - think there was a famous fish bowl called the 'head f**ker' says it all in the name really - although i seem to still be standing by the end of the night even after out drinking the manchester lads

All i will say is stay off them bl**dy quad bikes!!

To be honest im sure you will have a right laugh but defo get them closing parties booked up 8)

I've not done any of the other party islands... if my heart and soul belong to Ibiza, is there any point in going to the others?

Is it maybe "The Loft" your thinking of? Was there about 4/5 years ago, was something like 2 drinks and 5 shots for 10 euros
