The cost of London living

Right, so here's the question: what are the hidden costs of living in London?

I mean, aside from rent, what do you pay for? So far, I can think of electricity, phone and water... what's a normal monthly bill for these utilities?

Sky/cable and Internet are also in there, but I have an idea how much they cost. What else do you have?

Council Tax, Parking Permit, Life Assurance, Payment Protection, Train tickets, Mobile and Internet line.

you have to pay to put your rubbish out in london and a beer costs £6 after 9pm but the tube is free cos you can just jump over the barriers, also you can get free newspapers every day by pretending to put your money into one of those "In a rush? pay for your paper here" things. also, i don't reckon you'll need the gym cos you can walk more and exercise that way and further this will cut down on the amount you pay for travel although as i said earlier you can just bunk on the tube or if you wanna play by the rules a little, get your mate to buy a ticket and charge thru the turnstile behind them or even buy a day ticket thingy off a tramp in exchange for some fags, cos normally what the tramps do is just pick fag ends off the floor or near bins and then use the baccy to make a rolly.

whilst i was typing this a pigeon landed on the window ledge outside and did a massive sh1t!

Yes you do pay council tax when renting.

I am in Zone 5 so pay about £75 a month single occupancy and about £125 for a couple.
My utilities are £30 gas and elec combined per month and £5 a month water.
My mobile is about £40 - £60 a month (but my company pays it)

This is just for me so i cant really say this is what everyone has.

depends how much you use your mobile !
:p

Council tax depends on where you live - different Boroughs have different rates. It's also cheaper if you live on your own.
Say, about £100-140 a month for a working guy.

I;'ve found that my normal expenses for living down here are pretty much the same (although my rent/mortgage has doubled, but that's because of the property i'm in).
The biggest expense is that i'm just out and about more !

So, we're talking in the range of £150 a month for the essentials (gas, electric, water, phone, mobile, Internet, TV/Sky/cable)

That's not including Council Tax (varies by location), transportation, groceries and many of the girly things Jinja listed
