Yeah I watched, was very interesting indeed. Got very annoyed with the speak people though, sometimes they really are muppets.

that the anti mob? who was that guy their "leader". has he been on phone ins? - cos if it is, he loses the plot very quickly!

Didn't see it. Brief synopsis please....

animal testing - yay or nay.

one doc did experiments on monkeys hoping to find new ways of treatment for parkinsons (the disease not the chat show).

one boy on there did benefit, cos he can now stand (albeit a bit wobbly).

Guessed that much. But reasoned arguments or sensationalism from both sides?

reasoned from the pro lobby... usual boisterous clips from the anti bunch.

the pro-test group met up with a guy who is deemed the godfather of the animal rights lobby... and the monkey experimenting doc explained why he did what he did, and the guy just agreed that it was ok, if theres a use for it.

i think people tend to forget that animals now are tested for a reason. the way the anti demo leader was ranting on, he was proud that his actions has cost people money, and pretty much considered anyone linked to testing as fair game.

buckers

this is the man...

It's sick and cruel, imagine what you would feel like caged up like a prisoner and being subjected to tests and pain with no idea what's going on. humans need to learn that they do not own this planet and any other animals. enough said

Don't usually write intelligent and reasoned responses on Spotlight but this is something very close to my heart.

As a relatively healthy 28 year old (aside from the 12 years beer / illicit drugs self abuse which, going by posts on here, I share with a good few people) who was diagnosed with cancer when he was 11 and was lucky enough to benifit from chemo (and other medicines / treatments) that were tested on animals, I have absolutley no problem with being fully behind animal testing for medical purposes.

TO PUT IT SIMPLY - Without animal testing I'd be dead now.

I'd suggest that those who are fully against have either never had a proper disease which could kill them, never seen a relative die a prolonged, painful death or didn't realise that many of the medicines they have seen used on themselves or relatives (to usually beneficial effect) have probably been tested on animals.

Would those that are serioulsy against like to sign something that stated that "if they were to be in accident / taken ill, they would refuse any drug / treatment that was previously tested on animals" ? - I'd doubt it if it, actually came to it.:spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

Can I answer this one?

Whilst I'm totally sympathetic about what you must've been through, I still object to medical testing on animals.

Granted, it's a huge argument and you've raised a valid point.

But sending me on a guilt trip about people losing lives isn't going to change my mind on this one. There are viable alternatives, the regrowth of human tissue and organs for example - much closer to the real thing too.

Would I refuse it? How can I know until I'm in a similar situation? (God forbid)
I'm not about to lay down my life to prove a point, but It'll never sit well with me.

Just an opinion, and an equally valid one. :D

I think that's the crunch though Rob. I'm an animal lover (just ask Anna *boom-tish*) but if my Mum was dying of cancer and I had to kill one with my bear hands to save her I would.

It doesn't sit well with me but that's the truth.

So we're agreeing then aren't we? :D

But my point is, the people that matter aren't opposed to it. More energy should be spent investing time and research into viable alternatives - which do exist.

True - I'm all for freedom of speach and not trying to put anyone on a guilt trip - don't see that I could change my opinion about this though (no matter how many beagles I see being made to chain smoke fags)

Cosmetic testing on animals is a different matter altogether mind - plain wrong.

Incidently. What are fellow Spotlighters thoughts on human embreyo stem cell research ?
