Can anyone help with some touristy info?! :D

1. When is the best time to go?
2. What area would you recommend?
3. Any tour operators who do really good deals?
4. Any areas to avoid?
5. Average spending money needed?

Thanks! :P

I would go somewhere else. I'm serious.

I was not impressed at all. Dirty, over-touristed (well mostly, you can still find quiter spots).

Check out Indonesia, Cambodia, etc. instead!

My friends came back from Cambodia and they loved it, altho it's so touristic virgin that she missed some facilities.

Everybody I know that has been to Thailand has nothing but praise for the place (with the exception of touristy places like Phuket)

It's def on my places to visit list, think Nov- April best time to visit weather wise.

Well it's not like it's BAD, I'm just saying I think there are better spots if you want to travel south-east asia. ;)

And yes Nov-April will be the best time for that part of the world - less rain and not too warm/humid.

I respect your opinion, but at the same time I need to visit myself before I can pass judgement on it ;)

Goody, I was looking at around March/April next year :D

1. When is the best time to go? As already stated
2. What area would you recommend? Bangkok is great, Koh Samui & Ko Phan Nang are beautiful, Phuket is also beautiful especially Kata Noi
3. Any tour operators who do really good deals? Try to see if one of the airlines like Thai Aiways have a deal on i.e we flew to bangkok (rtn) and had 3nights (you choose which nights of your stay) in the Shangri La
4. Any areas to avoid? Check out :arrow:http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029390554
5. Average spending money needed? Depends how you want to live :?

Thailand is amazing. ;)

You just have to know where/when to go.

Feel free to pvt me any time you like because I've got stacks of info on the place.

1. SEP-DEC - Northern Thailand DEC-MAR - Southern Thailand (& islands).

2. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pai, Koh Phangan (NOT Samui unless you're going to Gecko bar which throws amazing parties on the north beaches), Koh Tao (for diving certification), the Surin islands (amazingly beautiful), Similian islands (excellent for diving), Koh Phra Thong (if you're up for a mission to get there it's one of the loveliest places in the world).
Also - there are loads of amazing national parks well worth exploring.

Yup - Cambodia/Laos etc are lovely but Thailand has everything if you know where to go - it's definately the best place in the region for variety. Obvious places like Phi Phi (where the beach was filmed *yawn* etc are REALLY heavily touristed and not great at all)...and Phangan is getting increasingly commercial these days - however, a short trip around the bay to where there are no roads and lots of jungle & you're in heaven! Can give you loads of excellent advice on where to stay.

3. Dunno cos I was travelling - I wouldn't book anything if I were you - just get a cheap flight from STA or Trailfinders and go where the wind takes you. Don't pre-book accomodation (except in Bangkok).

4. See above - and Pattaya if you're easily offended by the sex trade (like myself!).

5. Budget for roughly £25 per day.

Hope that helps! 8)

Me and a friend are planning to go to Thailand also this coming winter. We're only going for a week and looking for some nice beaches and parties, of course.
Which island/islands would you recommend for a short visit?
