can too much coffee give you a feeling of temporary blindness???

Just had a weird experience - working by myself today and covering 4 people's work, its really frantic, so to keep on top of things, have drank 5 cups of black coffee in the space of 2 hours (I dont normally drink this much in a week!) and I just had a weird feeling of wobbly vision (like looking through a sieve - or mesh) for about 30 secs. I had to close my eyes and hang my head out of the window till I felt better....

So do you think I should stop drinking coffee today then?? :? :? :?

I hadf a similar thing when I was at university and I too too many pro-plus whilst I was revising. My vision went all strange and I couldn't breath properly.

I can't have caffiene at all these days because it makes me ill. :(

I don't think it's coffee.

I get it sometimes and don't touch coffee.

Nothing wrong with my eyesight but i think it's due to staring at a monitor for too long. When it happens, i just go outside for some fresh air and re-adjust.

cheers Docs...

Off for a cig and a walk round the building - make sure it clears before the drive home tonight... 8O 8O

Will lay off the caffeine and drink water for the rest of the day methinks

Puppylover:

Get your eyes checked immediately. My sister had the same thing, and it turned out that her retina was torn. The doctor told her that had she waited for a day she would have lost vision in that eye.

Flippin heck Laguna! Mass Hysteria as everyone with blurred vision heads to eye clinic. Then again, it prob is best to get it checked if it happens a lot. I sounds like typical symptoms of too much caffeine, stress and looking at the monitor too much.

I actually get it on occasion and it reminds me of being on acid!

I havent done anything to damage my retina in the past few days so I think its just eye strain coupled with too much caffeine but thanks for the heads up on that one for future reference!! :?

Dude, it's only 7 in the morning here  . As I said it may be nothing, but no harm in running by the doctor.

My name is Grego and I am a caffeine-aholic!!

Its been 1 year and 23 days now since I decided to ditch the caffeine for some quality nescafe gold blend decaff. it honestly changed my life - no joke.

when i drank normal coffee: i'd regularly fall asleep as soon as I got home from work, or i'd be lethargic in the afternoon if i couldn't access some of those beautiful freeze dried brown beans.

now on the decaff, i've got more energy, don't feel like a dog all day and when i get home i can actually do stuff rather than jus passing out at 6pm.

BTW - dizzy eyes/blindness was one of my most common experiences when i'd OD on caffeine, especially when i needed a fix.

I started to suffer terrible headaches and eye strain when I was drinking caffeine daily (loads of it! Super caffeinated tea and Starbucks coffee). It took me a few days but after the usual withdrawal symptoms I got off the caffeine and took back my life! :D

Nowadays, for needed pep, I find that Red Bull or Vitamin B complex (50 mg) work better. Drinking loads of water and exercising helps, too.

I've been thinking about giving it up for quite a while now....... but it just never seems to be the right week! :?

If I miss my 11am or 4pm fix, I get so irritable, lacking in attention, low in energy etc. I really don't like being so reliant on any one substance.

Did it seriously only take you a few days to get past the worst of the withdrawal symptoms? I've heard 2 weeks mentioned before! 8O

If you're using a computer screen all day, then you should break away from the screen for ten minutes in every hour. Poor quality monitor screens can be bad too, probably the best is LCD flat screens. ;)

Quote from Jerry Kennards article - Are computers damaging your health?

"Any task that involves staring at a computer screen, no matter how exciting or interesting, leads to physical fatigue. So whilst you may be quite happy to press on with work your body may have other ideas. The most common physical complaints are eye strain and problems with vision (blurring and itching being typical). Headaches are also a product of prolonged staring at a screen. Remember to look away from the screen when you don't need to use it. Check that the light levels are comfortable and that you are not dealing with screen-reflected glare from windows or lighting. Some people find glare-reducing screens useful. If you experience repeated headaches you should visit your doctor. "

I think it might have been the euphoria of not being in pain anymore. An easy analogy: Caffeine = pain & dehydration, no caffeine = no pain or dehydration. Yay! The headaches and nausea from withdrawal weren't as bad as the way I felt when I was drinking all that tea and strong coffee. I started taking vitamin B at that time and that helped with irritability and lacking of attention. I stayed away from caffeine for three solid months and was paranoid about forgetting to order decaf. But one day I needed a pick me up so I had some regular coffee and was fine. It felt great, actually. As soon as I started drinking it every day it began to give me headaches again. I keep myself paranoid but I enjoy a nice cuppa now and then.

Drinking lots of water helps, too. Try to drink at least a liter or two a day, if you can get used to that. You'll be frequenting the loo but in the end, flushing out your kidneys and liver is healthy, and it will give you more energy. :D

I haven't drank tea or coffee for eight months, feel much better for it!

Thanks for the advice Dr Paris 400! ;)

i go through about 9 proplus a day in work

im new to office work and find it pretty hard not being on my feet all day

some days im fine, im noticing that getting more than 4 hours sleep helps me, as well as going to bed in silence, rather than having data cd's with dj sets spinning through the small hours. my office desk wouldn't be complete without my little proplus corner in my top drawer.

I've just stopped drinking tea and coffee this week! I used to go through about 5 cups a day. I'm not doing too badly, feel much more tired than usual though, hopefully this will stop as I wean myself off it!
I've been drinking decaff coffee as I do like the taste in the mornings 8)

I stopped drinking tea and coffee years ago, I don't know if I feel better for it cos I don't remember what it's like to drink it, but I spose it's one less vice to have

I only drink one coffe in the morning and in winter I do take a couple of tea but that's all. My stomach and my nerves really apreciate it, I used to have more than 5 coffees per day
