No, the mixer would need a digital out. The mixer pictured in your post doesn't have a digital out (MiniDisk players and CD players often have coaxial digital in/out).

Hopefully you have connected the RCAs from the Cortex to the red & white RCA connectors under LINE 1 and LINE 2 (NOT PH1 or PH2) and made sure that on the top of the mixer Chanels 1 & 2 are set to LINE. If there was nothing after connecting to the bottom red/black connectors I would assume its probably goosed. They are labelled inputs bottom row, outputs top row if you look closely at the right hand side of the picture.
