talk about a joke "bombing"

Agreed!

I just saw this on the BBC website. No doubt we'll have hundreds of people protesting about this.

Much like Mark Oaten standing for the LibDem Leadership with a skeleton banging loudly on the door of his closet, this fella must of known that he'd be in papers and hence have his past exposed fairly quickly.

There's few of us on this site that wouldn't get ripped to shreds by the tabloids for past misdemeanours if we were ever to become famous, never mind a former smack dealer. Tool!

Hell, in the UK you don't even have to be legitimately famous to become tabloid fodder  How many UK tabloid "stars" have actually never done anything (except maybe appear on Page 3!)?

There is another school of thought on this guy, though. Perhaps he was a dealer and then found radical religion during or after he spent his time in prison. It appears that he is currently enrolled in university. Perhaps he thought he had paid his dues to society by serving time for his conviction, which theoretically should return to him the right to free speech (however misused) that any citizen enjoys.

so are you saying that embracing a radical branch of a religion and becoming intoxicated in the beliefs is the natural regression from knocking out class a drugs?? is so good point!!

"hmmm Im bored of selling crack......is there any lower I can go.....I know I'll be a pretend terrorist"

No, but how many times have you seen criminals who lacked direction turn to religion during/after prison in order to find some meaning in their lives? It seems to be a relatively common theme in the whole process of crime & punishment, incarceration & rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, this guy chose the wrong version of his religion. He might have started out by going to the mosque regularly and readin the koran. Then he fell in with the wrong crowd, a group of radicalized youth who felt marginalized by society and encouraged him to embrace their view of Islam. Next thing you know, he's pulling stupid stunts like that one.

I know what you meant Johnny old boy....just playing "devils advocate" ;)

I personally would "beef up" and get a few interesting tatoos, or fall in with the "italians"... I like the "goodfellas" way of doing porridge!!

I'd love to fall in with the "wrong crowd".

I'm sure my parents thought I had when I started hanging out with the punk kids in high school, but that was kiddy stuff, really. Just funny haircuts and black clothes.

Gonna need some serious "bad" people to lead me astray

I would've thought that the "badlands" of lawless Moscow had "wrong crowds" in abundance??

You'd be surprised how hard it is to find some upmarket "wrong crowds"

I suppose I could go hang out with the runaway teenagers at the train station, but I feel I need something a little more substantive in its level of "wrongness"
