SXMusic Festival - St Maarten

I toyed seriously with the recent festy in Morocco (in the end couldn't face going there and was stupidly expensive) but this is the first international festy to REALLY get my eye in years. St Maarten/St Martin is very liberal - island is half French territory and 1/2 dutch territory. Really strange thing the dutch side is built-up and the French side more shabby-chic. Also got the mental beach right at the end of the runway and weather in March is usually hot and nice at a time the water is still freezing over here. Added bonus I've been a few times in years gone by so know pretty much the sort of thing to expect.

They're doing venues across the island apparently and planning on running all day and all night for 5 days. Earlybird entry tickets crazy cheap. I bought one today hoping I can get it together to go over (a bit far for me these days but maybe could stretch to a week).

Line-up release is obviously 1st phase/embryonic and I think they're still in booking mode. Got all the makings of an absolutely fantastic new festival if they can pull it off.

Since i live in Tampa, i was considering trying to do this instead of miami music week. Then i remembered i lived in florida so i think ill try and do both.
 
For UK based considering this festival, my friends' travel company are the official European partner, and so I'm led to believe had preferential flight & accommodation rates.

I can't comment on how competitive their prices are, as no frame of reference. But they will be an absolute pleasure to assist you, I can guarantee that much :)

Flights via Paris are just over £600 cattle class but it's 8-9 hours from France non-stop. Huge advantage is you by-pass in-transit immigration as never have to step foot in USA or deal with Miami International !

The partner hotels all seem a bit pricey. Much better deals on the island if you're mobile usual sites ! Thing is with split venues your own transport is likely a big benefit and taxis are pretty expensive if I remember right. About £30 a day for a hire car or there are scooters / quads at about US$55-60+/day. Or you can wait around for the various minibuses to show up 'as and when' !

If I lived that close I'd definitely go - there's no overlap with MMF and air fares/journey time reasonable. Should get a much better vibe than Miami, provided it attracts enough non-douches over. I haven't spent 8+hours in the back section of a plane in as long as I can remember :oops:. Being somewhat impulsive over trips away and accustomed to booking at the last minute, am still struggling with the notion of throwing $2,000 at a non-refundable air fare before it jumps to $3-$5k+ which is out of the question ! It isn't cheap 'on the ground' in St Martin either so a sensible total budget is still proving borderline overall from here.

If I miss the boat on the cheapo business class fares I'll happily assign you my ticket ;)
 
It's less about wanting to go than being able to use the time off. I've been to St Maarten a few times on cruises and its a lovely island. Kind of intrigued as to how they are going to organize this but if you only fly business class thats a hefty price for something that may or may not work so well! I also have a wedding for that date which isnt a necessity to go to, but i likely should be at lol. It will likely be a last minute decision kind of deal.
 
Sadly, can't make this now. 5-day wristband ticket to access all events going cheap if anyone wants it. Tkt is transferable and can have it at early bird cost inbox me if interested. Near-as £125 / 175Eur / US$200 can d/w by PayPal.

i cant go but i may have a friend who wants to go, ill see if i can find a buyer for you if you want. if theyre going for more on stubhub or something feel free to just let it fly
