Don't think he was taught that at Chelsea though. Look how much less Joe Cole does that kind of thing than he did 2-3 years ago (though he's also still not immune)
Morbyd said:Essien doesn't dive. Drogba's problem is not diving but just being overtheatrical when he is brought down and rolling around like a big baby. Robben has some issues.

Morbyd said:Lets get one thing straight - diving is when you go down under no or minimal contact in order to get a foul.
Drogba usually only goes down under contact, which is fine. His crime is rolling around like a baby afterwards, which annoys me.
Grego - You are categorically wrong about Gallas, Makalele (with one sad exception in Monaco), Gudjohnsson, Carvalho. I won't argue the point with you. You are wrong.
Del Horno last night didn't dive, he fell down tripping over the ball. He should have got right back up, though, as his sitting there is what got the foul on Parker which was wrong.
Also, re: Joe Cole. I didn't watch many West Ham games before but when he arrived at Chelsea he used to collapse at the slightest contact so he certainly didn't pick up that habit with the Blues. He goes down MUCH less now.
And while SWP was the villain last night, he is generally a player who will do what ever it takes to run around defenders and stay on his feet so it is unfair to demonize him for one night of poor judgement.

I won't nitpick with you about the other players in your most recent post because they do nothing that other players in the EPL don't do, Liverpool players included, and none of them is a consistent offender.grego said:- if you think makalele doesn't do it then you're obviously seeing something diff from the rest of the world. the subtle, sly behaviour is all part of his game in terms of breaking play up and getting in the way of things. his whole game is about getting amongst it and conning free kicks out of the ref to stop attacks, if you're not aware of this then you know less about footy than i thought. you talk about minimal contact, just watch makalele go down or play for a free kick at the slightest touch, when he is like a rash himself over players but gets away with it cos he's sly (a lá franco baresi in his heyday)
Morbyd said:He breaks up attacks by intercepting or stealing the ball. His next task is to try to distribute said ball. At this point, the attackers more often than not will try to get it back. If at this point he gets tripped, or he does the standard pass-the-ball-and-get-obstructed move, I call that fair play.
