Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle suffered a breakdown last night, collapsing from the stress of her meteoric rise to fame, according to a published report.
The physically and mentally exhausted Boyle, 48, was rushed by ambulance from her London hotel to a hospital one day after she performed in the finale of "Britain's Got Talent," The Sun newspaper reported.
"The staff were concerned -- something wasn't right," a hotel source told the paper.
"When the paramedics and police arrived, she agreed to go voluntarily. She didn't make a fuss. The paramedics calmly took her out through the main lobby and into the waiting ambulance. It was all done very calmly. They didn't want to stress or upset her. She didn't look well -- she looked lost, not all there."
A "Britain's Got Talent" spokesman said, "Following Saturday's show, Susan is exhausted and emotionally drained. She has been seen by her private [doctor], who supports her decision to take a few days out for rest and recovery."
Another British paper, The Daily Star, reported that Boyle flew into a rage backstage after losing the talent competition, shouting, "I hate this show. I hate it!" She also threw a cup at a production staffer, according to the reports.
Boyle was the big favorite going into Saturday's finale, but she finished second. Despite the health setback, Boyle was still expected to hit talk shows in the United States in the coming days. She's also set for a cameo appearance on ABC's "Ugly Betty."
